Jill and I are shocked by the sudden passing of Lindsey Graham. Lindsey and I served together in Congress for over a decade, and worked closely on many issues throughout the years. We traveled the world together as members of the Senate Foreign Relations committee. We disagreed often, and sometimes loudly. Lindsey and I did agree on the profound importance of public service. Like me, he loved the Senate as an institution, even with all its flaws and complexities. To his family, his staff, his constituents in South Carolina, and everyone who loved him: Jill and I are keeping you in our prayers.

Anyway, I have been keeping relatively quiet for too long on what has been festering on our side, because I am consumed with keeping up with the news for my Weekly List project, and I was hoping to keep the peace on our side. But what has happened now is some real stupid group think has metastasized and become normalized on our side. How did AIPAC and Israel become enemy #1, and the litmus test of our party? Does Bibi suck? Yes. Know who else sucks? YOUR PRESIDENT! And like the U.S., there will be an election there, and with any luck, Bibi will be gone in a few months. Also, half of you on this bandwagon probably don't even know what AIPAC is, or how small their influence is. This is the hill we are dying on now to lose in midterms? So fucking stupid! We almost lost Maine. We would have if he was our candidate. Maybe we have a shot now. We are going to punt Michigan too if we use this inane litmus test in a purple state. So if you are on my page, be prepared for some pushback to the mainstreaming of this stupidity. I should have done it sooner. My bad. If you're not wanting to listen, feel free to unfollow now. Here's your hat, what's your hurry. My goal is to WIN in November. Trump will do untold damage if we don't take at least the House, and hopefully the Senate. We need some damn common sense in our party, and fast! Platner is exhibit A of that! I plan to do my part.

@mcbyrne Do you think Andrew Gillum lost against DeSantis because Gillum was too conservative? I have a hard time believing that.

I'm old enough to remember that Andrew Gillum-Gwen Graham primary in 2018 and it's unbelievable how similar it is to the El-Sayed-Stevens primary. Gillum made the case he was so talented and charismatic he would kill DeSantis. And there were a lot of progressive journalists who just ate that up. I liked Gillum, believed it and it was wrong.

More like frenemies.

Periodic reminder that the claim that if you want to be represented by working class people or military veterans then you have to put up with the sort of flaws that Platner has on display represents a terrible libel of working class people and military veterans.
