@ThomasCutter @baizewatch At points in his career, when it was mandatory to wear a tie, Higgins had a medical cert. Claim was it made a rash worse or some such

@StevenTrevor @baizewatch @147155snooker @EdwardsTips_ @SnookerHeroes Excuse my typing that was obviously meant to be Ireland B lost heavily to Ireland A. Big Bill was fairly consistent 80-84 was ranked 10/9/8th in world. Then in 84/85 started to struggle to keep in top 16. Obviously he had health issues but so sad he died at 56.

@StevenTrevor @baizewatch @147155snooker @EdwardsTips_ @SnookerHeroes Had to look up who won final. Ireland B lost heavily to Ireland B in first round. Seems winning nation then got to enter two teams. Strangely during golden era of snooker prize money went down. Higgins, Taylor & Hughes had split £40k the year before but shared £33k in ‘86

@bwdobson @baizewatch People used to look older ? You’d accept Wilson was 19 here but Patsy Houlihan looks more 35 than the 25 that think he was.

@baizewatch Cliff was born in the wrong era. I played him at a holiday camp and he was potting them off the lampshades. As he would say in his advertising ‘you ain’t seen nothing like it’

Cliff Wilson alongside Pat Houlihan outside Burroughes and Watts Hall, Soho Square, they are there competing in the English Amateur Snooker Championship. Cliff's prodigious talent would see him go on to finish runner up in the competition, aged just nineteen - March 1954

Some personal news - after almost four years at the Sunday Independent, last weekend's was my last edition. It was a privilege working with so many great journalists. I'll hopefully have details on an exciting new project soon.
