As we watch what many of us thought would be an improbable reality in 2017 unfold into a global asset class today, the long term future has always been top of mind. Not next week or next year but what will happen in 5 years and 10.
Immutability, permanence and self sovereignty got me fired up about punks and blockchain technology, eventually leading to glyphs and ultimately @artblocks_io.
This foundation the materialization of a personal commitment to the longevity of the legacy that's been built at the intersection of generative art and blockchain technology and I'm proud to share in this initiative in support of the generative medium with @jeffgdavis.

Since establishing the Generative Art Fund in 2021, it’s been our dream to broaden our charter and champion the field of generative art beyond fiscal support. Today, we are proud to announce that we’ve officially evolved into the Generative Art Foundation, with an expanded mission. Our new focus areas include: Opportunity: Expanding opportunities for creative coding by supporting organizations that merge art and programming, and championing diversity and inclusivity. Education: Fostering public appreciation of generative art through educational events and cultural exchanges and serving as a resource for academic research. Preservation: Securing the future of generative art by researching and implementing digital preservation solutions and building a diverse collection of artworks. Partnership: Collaborating with museums and other art institutions to integrate generative art into exhibitions and facilitate on-chain acquisitions. We invite you to contribute to our mission. Your donations enable us to maintain current giving levels while expanding our scope. Since 2021, more than $1.5 million has been donated by artists and individuals who believe in the future of generative art. nfts on abstract.
you have to question yourself, why would people ever prefer buying nfts abstract (or L2’s) over eth?
1> low gas fees, last bull cycle an average mint costed 100-300$. trading nfts on large scale could make you burn 10s thousands just for txn’s to go through. L2’s can handle more transactions per minute & are way more scalable while being cheap.
2> rewards, the crazy part about projects that still need to tge is the fact they often have an airdrop coming up. abstract didn’t mention how nfts will play a role within their xp ecosystem. xp is a huge incentive for users to provide liquidity as many expect large airdrops coming from trading nfts. usually a clear playbook is what attracts liquidity.
3> liquidity, hate it or love it. 99% of crypto native users interacts with products purely to make money. they follow attention & liquidity seeking for opportunities to make money. the more liquidity a platform has, the more likely they will add liquidity as well. once abstract sees this snowball effect, nfts can be considered ‘not dead’ overnight.
