#HeatPumps are incredibly efficient: 2 to 5 times more efficient than the best gas furnace. And they’re a 2-for-1, providing both heating and cooling. This cuts energy bills and carbon pollution at the same time—and can provide potentially life-saving cooling in a heat wave.

“many Canadians turn to central air conditioners to cool their homes … this is a missed opportunity to switch to heat pumps, which are more energy-efficient and can both heat and cool.”

The end of this month marks my 10 year anniversary and last day at @Shopify. It’s impossible to express my gratitude for everything that is this place, people, & product, which has been my world for a decade...

@BrandonMChu Great idea. I recently spent some time in Singapore and SE Asia with my 2 year old. Singapore is great for that age, very easy to get around. Other parts of SE a bit more tricky but doable if you are adaptable. Book key accommodations ahead of time, freestyle the rest. Enjoy!

Every week, I talk to someone looking to transition into #climate from tech. It makes me so damn optimistic.
When they ask me where to look for opportunities, here's what I say:

"The amount of heat we are putting into the oceans is equivalent to about five Hiroshima atom bombs of energy every second."

Put another way, the amount of heat energy the ocean has gained since the 1940s (400 zettajoules) could power the entire world for 648 years 🤯

TIL: the ocean holds a massive amount of heat energy.
Zeke Hausfather@hausfath
Ocean heat content is our best measure of the impact of human activity on the climate; >90% of all heat trapped by greenhouse gases is absorbed by the oceans. In 2021, we saw the warmest ocean heat content since records began, >400 billion trillion joules higher than the 1940s.
