I use LLMs a fair bit on a daily basis. Typically on here I only share responses by Cloddy - a personalized Claude Sonnet (now 3.7), however that doesn't mean I'm not using LLMs for serious work, I very much do. Just that (mainly) it's more fun sharing the fun stuff. You tell me?

@DanDavisWrites I recently wrote an article in which I mention that the words 'cattle' and 'chattel' both derive from 'capital-' which originally referred to counting wealth by counting the heads of cows. Coming out next week.

You could go back 5000 years to the Pontic steppe to meet a PIE-speaking herder, point at the cattle and say "cows" and he'd be like "yeah I know, bro."

English has an amazing and underutilized system of direction adverbs: hither/thither/whither (to here/there/where) hence/thence/whence (from here/there/where) They were very common in Old English, as hider, þider, hwider, heonan, þanon, and hwanon. Now, they are sadly considered archaic, and mostly really only used as jokes. We have replaced them with just here, there, and where, and use context or “to” to demonstrate the direction.
