I wish to express the appreciation of the Government of Rwanda to the @Ashesi University in Ghana, and to its President @PatrickAwuahJr, for erecting this memorial to honor the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, and to pay tribute to the Ghanaian contingent in Rwanda for its bravery. Ashesi students Kekeli Biga, an Economics major, and Maureen Allandi, a Mechanical Engineering major, would join Virgin Music Nigeria's New Gen Internship. The 12-week placement gives students direct exposure to how the music business operates, from strategy and distribution to artist development and commercial partnerships. The 20th Ashesi annual career fair brought together 75 organizations from across sectors, including telecommunications, real estate, and finance. Two Ashesi student teams, Sigma Capital Partners and Alpha Capital Partners, have placed first and second, respectively, at the 2026 @CFAinstitute Research Challenge (Ghana). The competition required participating teams to conduct a comprehensive valuation of the MTN Group. Following their win, Team Sigma Capital will represent Ghana at the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Competition scheduled for May this year. Read more: ashe.si/3NvWcIw #atAshesi

On March 5, 2026, the Ashesi Community lost Johnson Pendaeli Maturo '27, a student of purpose whose presence was felt in and out of the classroom. From teaching Physics in Tanzania to championing mental health through his work with MiNova Mental Health Clinic, the Wellness Within Hub, and as a Peer Counsellor at Ashesi, Maturo showed a deep commitment to supporting others. He guided peers through challenges, created space for honest conversations, and quietly worked to improve university life for those around him. A team of four students competed in the Global Sustainability Supply Chain Student Competition, placing first in the Africa–Middle East region and earning bronze overall. The team included @Cartier Scholars Sandrine Uwase’27 and Prosperine Hollande Nduwayo’27, alongside @MastercardFdn Scholars Eunice Sayubu’26 and Divine La Grace Igirubuntu’26. When Rayane Kameni, a final-year Mechanical Engineering student from CESI (École d'Ingénieurs), joined Ashesi as an exchange student, he became part of a research team tackling a critical challenge in Ghana: unpredictable rainfall and limited irrigation that threaten farmers' incomes and food security. Together with two Ashesi research interns, Kameni worked on "Synthesis and Characterization of Biodegradable Cassava-Based Hydrogels for Water Management in Irrigation." Using cassava, a widely cultivated and affordable crop, the team developed hydrogels that absorb and slowly release water, helping crops thrive during dry periods.
