Now that it’s been a good 11 hours since that cancerous game ended, here are my thoughts: Roberto Martinez - absolute idiot. The only thing I rate about him is his dominance and consistency in qualifying for tournaments, but tactically, he is horrible—he simply cannot break down low blocks. We saw it in Euro 2024 vs Czechia and Slovenia. We went 3 whole games without a single open-play goal. I’m thankful that he trusts Ronaldo and still lets him start (objectively he should), but he has favorites and bad decision-making. Vitinha x Bruno - both were incredibly underwhelming. They both are trying to run playmaker gimmick, yet we went the whole game without a single big chance created. One of them needs to be the sole playmaker and control that (probably Bruno). Bernardo Silva, Tomas Araujo, Pedro Neto (and every other shitter) - how are these bums starters for Portugal in the big 2026? It should be Conceicao/Trincao, Felix, and Inacio. HORRIBLE performance and bad decision from Martinez to start them. How did Bernardo scam a Real Madrid move? And Martinez is still running winger gimmick for him 😂 Ronaldo - I don’t care what you say, but he wasn’t at fault at all this game. He was the only direct player this game, along with Conceicao and Neves (his goal). He had positive actions and was careful but smart with the ball. However, being paired with two bums on the wing won’t work; how was Felix not starting??? Felix starts, and we win this game purely off that. Ronaldo had two decent attempts at goal, but those are objectively difficult chances, and he did the best he could. He got no service the whole game. Overall - bad, simple way to put it. They should’ve just gone for the win imo because 1 point doesn’t really do anything since they need to win vs Uzbekistan, either way and 3 points is enough for advancement. Colombia just won 3-1 over Uzbekistan so it looks like they will have the GD advantage coming into the final game. We NEED to win vs Uzbekistan (preferably a comfortable win) and win against Colombia. If not, we get second and risk a RO32 with Croatia. We would proceed to get Spain, Belgium, and France. It’s really only uphill from here.
