As one half of an academic couple who has taken turns solo-parenting since late October, I think every department should do this

If you're at a large state university or an institution with a substantial number of first-gen and working class students, check out our article in @Teaching_Soc about how to address the specific set of structural barriers these students face. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00…

Do infants modulate their own language input? Is the use of simpler IDS in response to infant vocalizations specific to child-centric cultures? Out now in TopiCS: “Immature vocalizations simplify the speech of Tseltal Mayan and U.S. Caregivers” A 🧵: /1 bit.ly/3EEzLIQ

@PeretzLange So maybe part of the issue here is that the parents told kids they would have $5 to spend on Amazon (or whatever amount they accumulated from doing multiple studies), and are disappointed to find out the gift card isn't for Amazon

@PeretzLange I also admire your effort to not support Amazon- some labmates have tried to brainstorm alternatives as well. I think parents may just assume gift cards are from Amazon from experience, but also some kids are "promised" the money (i.e., they get to use the money to buy things)
