Have to say watching the public in my area go from “nah, we never get tornadoes, nothing will happen” to complete panic at a storm now (I don’t blame them with 21 tors so far in the area) I so badly wish people would be more prepared because it never happens…until it happens.

@wxSabian Sirens were my wake up alarm today. Can safely say I’m not a fan.

@wxSabian I was just discussing this very feeling with a fellow chaser last night. I still have time to decide on a chase since work will have me locked down til 2pm anyway but something just doesn’t feel right about this one

I really hate saying this but yesterday I woke up with a horrible gut feeling about today. That’s why I decided not to chase. Rule #1, always trust your gut.

@FloridaPA27 @thebroderickwx Structure > tornadoes, I’ll die on that hill. A well-organized severe squall line is a LOT more likely to get me on the road than a messy Dixie supercell

In your opinion, what separates the chasers that consistently score photogenic tornadoes and always seem to be in the right place at the right time from the chasers that seem to chase just as frequently, but dont score?

I have thoughts...but no time to dive into this. Briefly...environment there to be had. Cap was the ?. 18Z HRRR did show potential...then lost it. It was a cap or no cap sitch. 5PM cap still around per ACARS...6PM broke per ACARS. Once that happened...boom.

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center did not anticipate a tornado threat for the Kansas City area, prompting concerns among some that ongoing changes to staffing and weather balloon releases at the NWS might be leaving forecasters in the dark about threats. nbcnews.com/weather/tornad…

Did not have frisky KS dry line pop off and the resulting backyard chase that quickly ensued on my Monday Bingo card. Still managed a pretty solid intercept, all things considered 🫠 #kswx

Latest 18Z HRRR is having cap break here soon and having intense supercells forming over eastern KS/western MO (KC metro) by 7pm this evening. This wasn't in my cards. I'll monitor it. @NWSSPC #kcwx #mowx #kswx

I'm growing very intrigued about Sunday in Kansas. MOST models suggest the environment will remain "capped"; a lid of hot, dry air at 5,000 feet will prevent air from rising/making storms. But IF a storm can form/break the cap, it would be VERY intense and dangerous.

@WickyDubs2 Me still at home base debating on if it’s worth hauling from OP to Topeka… in rush hour 🤔👎 in hopes this cell near Dover holds or better just for some structure shots lol
