Thelma Armstrong, a South African from Klerksdorp and former Foodzone general manager, was killed in the mass shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, US on 28 September 2025. During worship, gunman Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, rammed his truck into the building, opened fire with an assault rifle, and set the church ablaze, claiming 4 lives and injuring 8 others. Thelma had immigrated to the US in 2019. Heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.
