@GadSaad Of course God isn’t taking sides in the NFL. But it shows how much belief a player or coach has to have in himself. It’s just a useful delusion to believe that a deity is on your side. More people would be happier if they believed God was rooting for them in any walk of life.

On a related note, when members of the winning team thank God for the victory, is it that God is a Seahawks fan more so than a fan of the Patriots?

If yes, do you genuinely believe that the Lord of the Universe shared His desire to have this individual become the Seahawks’ coach? I’m genuinely curious about how people process such a statement.

@MattBruenig @Price_Rainer @mattyglesias Correct. The compensation is primarily for risk, not labor. This becomes evident when you look at all the similar startups that don’t succeed. Why would an investor invest in early days of Bezos and Amazon if it were not some nonlinear potential upside?

@Price_Rainer @mattyglesias This is a common move with capitalist apologia. Owner-executives both own shares and do valuable managerial labor. This muddling of the two functions lets you imply that they are being compensated for their labor. But they become billionaires from the owning not the work.
