Why ELPA is going on a unique European Liver Screening Tour ELPA is going on a unique European Liver Screening Tour because Europe can no longer afford to wait for liver disease to become visible only when it is already advanced. For too long, liver disease has remained silent. Silent in patients. Silent in health systems. Silent in public policy. But today, the burden of steatotic liver disease, metabolic dysfunction, obesity, diabetes and alcohol-related harm is growing across Europe. And yet, millions of people remain undiagnosed, unaware of their risk, and disconnected from timely prevention. This is why the European Liver Screening Tour is so important. It is not only a screening campaign. It is a European wake-up call. It is a practical example of how liver health can move from theory into action, from conferences into communities, and from late diagnosis into early prevention. The Tour brings together outreach, prevention, mobile diagnostics, multidisciplinary cooperation and real-world evidence into one integrated model. It shows that the future of liver care cannot remain limited to hospitals, specialists and late-stage disease. The future must be closer to communities. Closer to people. Closer to prevention. Through the European Liver Screening Tour, ELPA is helping to demonstrate a new model of care: one that is collective, preventive, proactive and integrated. A model where people do not have to wait until symptoms appear. A model where screening comes to them. A model where liver health is connected with diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, metabolic health, cancer, strokes and broader NCD prevention. A model where prevention is no longer passive — it becomes active. Liver disease is not a marginal issue. It is a widespread, silent and under-recognised public health challenge. And this is exactly why ELPA is acting now. Because every undiagnosed patient is a missed opportunity. Every late diagnosis is a failure of prevention. And every community reached through screening is a chance to change the future of liver health in Europe. The European Liver Screening Tour is not only about detecting liver disease. It is about building evidence. It is about raising awareness. It is about bringing prevention to the people. It is about showing policymakers that liver health must be part of Europe’s broader strategy for NCDs, cardiovascular health plan and other EU initiatives, sustainable healthcare and healthy ageing. Most importantly, it is about proving that integrated prevention is possible — not in theory, but in real life. That is why the European Liver Screening Tour is more than a public health initiative. It is a real-world model for the future of European healthcare. A model where screening becomes access. Where data becomes advocacy. Where early detection becomes policy. Where communities become part of the solution

Europe is entering a new era in healthcare — and #liverhealth must be at the heart of it. #Hepatitis B, C and D are not just #infectious diseases. They are among the leading causes of #livercancer in Europe. But today, for the first time in history, we have the tools to change this story. ✅ #Hepatitis C can be cured. ✅ #Hepatitis B can be prevented through vaccination. ✅ #Hepatitis D can be prevented by protecting against #Hepatitis B — and today, treatment for #Hepatitis D finally exists. ✅ Functional cure strategies for #Hepatitis B are becoming a real possibility. This changes everything. Because eliminating viral hepatitis means preventing thousands of liver cancer cases across Europe. This is exactly why ELPA — the European Liver Patients’ Association — fought to ensure hepatitis became part of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Many saw hepatitis only as an infectious disease. ELPA saw the bigger picture. We saw the connection between prevention, testing, treatment and cancer elimination. We saw the opportunity for integration. And we insisted that liver cancer prevention through hepatitis elimination had to become part of Europe’s future health strategy. Today, Europe is moving toward a new vision of healthcare: more integrated, more preventive, more personalised, more equitable. The Critical Medicines Act. The Pharmaceutical Reform Package. The Biotech Act. Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. These are not isolated initiatives. Together, they represent political will. A commitment to innovation. A commitment to prevention. A commitment to saving lives. Now the question is no longer: “Can we eliminate hepatitis in Europe?” The question is: “How fast can we do it?” The future is already beginning. And ELPA will continue leading the way — to eliminate hepatitis, to reduce liver cancer, and to build a healthier Europe for all. Stay tuned. The next chapter of liver health in Europe is coming. #EuropeanTestingWeek #ELPA #Hepatitis #LiverCancer #EUHealthUnion #BeatingCancerPlan #HepatitisElimination #LiverHealth #Prevention #PublicHealth #EU4Health

🌍 World Hepatitis Summit! HepFreeBadge — an innovative initiative led by Ivana Dragojević, Vice-President of ELPA and President of HRONOS, dedicated to advancing hepatitis prevention through community engagement. 💡 The reality: Around 70% of people living with viral hepatitis remain undiagnosed. At the same time, everyday beauty procedures can involve exposure to blood — yet this sector is still largely overlooked in prevention strategies. The solution: HepFreeBadge is changing that. By training and certifying beauty professionals in infection control and safe practices, we are bridging a critical gap between public health and real-world risk environments. ✔️ 90 salons certified in Serbia since 2021 ✔️ Successfully piloted in neighbor country ✔️ A scalable model with real impact 🤝 This is not about medicalizing the beauty sector — it’s about recognizing its role and empowering it to be part of the solution. ⚠️ If we are serious about eliminating hepatitis, we must look beyond traditional healthcare settings. Prevention must reach everywhere risk exists. Together, we can build safer communities. Together, we can move closer to WHO elimination goals. #HepFreeBadge #WorldHepatitisSummit #HepatitisElimination #PublicHealth #Prevention #ELPA #HRONOS #HealthInnovation
