First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine
“We Are Fighting Russia — And We Know Why It Will Lose.” In his new column for "Ukrainska Pravda", Commander of the First Corps Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, Brigadier General Denys Prokopenko shares his reflections on the Ukrainian and Russian armies as two fundamentally opposite systems. What philosophy do the Ukrainian Defense Forces cultivate? Why is the Russian army built on loyalty rather than competence? How does Azov strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s frontline defense? A kit available on the internet turns an ordinary paper airplane made from a sheet of A4 paper into a real mini-drone. I can’t help looking at this whimsical little thing and picturing how it could be scaled up and weaponized for use in Ukraine.

How Mendel's husband, Pavlo Kukhta, and many others (e.g Arestovych, Artem Dmytruk) managed to flee Ukraine? Why he spent less than a month on the frontline & was demobilized? Not fair for the rest of Ukrainian men who are drafted & sent to fight the russians.

“Shall I look there?” With these words, one fame-famished woman threw her nation under a bus on the most powerful Russian propaganda platform in the United States. Millions of Americans trust Tucker because he has captured the spirit of their righteous frustration with modern American life. But then he uses that wounded spirit as an opening to inject American minds with the Kremlin’s precise talking points. Like a Goebbels character, he gets many Americans to blame Ukraine for all of their problems. Now, Putin, losing, is panicked and so he turns to his next propaganda trompe-l’œil — using Tucker to trick Trump to hurt Ukraine. From central casting, enter teary-eyed Iuliia Mendel, briefly the pre-war press secretary to then newly-elected Zelensky, was, whether for money or frame, only too happy to play her role. The only time Tucker has turned to a Ukrainian to talk about Ukraine is this person who spoke never of the Maidan, nor of the reasons why Ukraine’s warfighters hold the line, nor of Russia’s cruelty, but only of shameless, factless innuendo about Zelensky. She painted the Ukrainian people as helpless, crying babusyas in need of a rescue from Dad Vlad, when in fact Ukraine is now so strong that Vlad Putin had to beg Volodymyr Zelensky for permission to have his annual Red Square death-liturgy parade just days ago. I know both Iuliia and Tucker personally. Tucker turned against me for his own benefit when Roger Ailes and Murdoch’s men were coming after me: They care not for the victory of free people. They are only performing, Gollum-like, for their own fame and money and their own sense of self-importance.

Julia Mendel, what you are spreading here is not a “differentiated criticism”, but rather a disgusting relativization of a brutal war of aggression. While Russia is bombing Ukrainian cities, murdering civilians and hunting people with drones, you are reproducing the Kremlin's dirtiest lie: that perpetrators and victims are equally responsible. And your thanks to Tucker Carlson makes it all even more despicable. Carlson is not a courageous journalist, but a cynical propagandist who holds microphones to authoritarian rulers and carries Putin's narrative into Western living rooms. Anyone who gives him an interview and celebrates him for it is making themselves an amplifier of the very disinformation that is intended to provide political security for this war. No, this war is not “pointless”. He has a clear person responsible: Vladimir Putin and his regime. Russia could stop the killing today - by withdrawing its troops from Ukraine. The fact that you instead accuse the Ukrainian leadership of a lack of desire for peace is morally grotesque. The Ukrainian people will not be betrayed by those who defend themselves. It is betrayed by people who, in the midst of terror, begin to make Kremlin stories socially acceptable and portray propagandists like Carlson as truth-finders. Your words are not a contribution to peace - they are a gift to the perpetrators and a piece of shit.

And for those who are particularly gullible and fall for empty clickbait headlines, I'd like to remind you that Yulia Mendel was disgracefully removed from her position as the presidential spokesperson as far back as in 2021, almost A FULL YEAR BEFORE Russia's full-scale invasion. So all of her "insider knowledge" about Zelensky's plans in 2022 of "giving up Donbas to Russia" in the "Istabul talks" is nothing more than empty talk and attention craving from a nobody.

"Hey, Ukraine, where's your culture? Art? Literature?" Destroyed by russia. Authors killed. Ahead of the Venice Biennale opening, activists presented the "Invisible Pavilion" — a project dedicated to Ukrainian artists and writers murdered by russia. Across Venice, posters advertised "alternative" Biennale events. The events that will never happen. There will be no reading of our Vika Amelina's book — she was murdered in a russian missile strike on Kramatorsk. Volodymyr Vakulenko will never present his tales for children — he was tortured during the occupation of Kharkiv region. No poetry reading with a rising star Nika Kozhushko, killed in a russian strike on Kharkiv. Each poster carries the same inscription: "Cancelled. The author was killed by russia." And now the world dares to ask: so where are your poets, your novels of the century, your exhibitions, your Oscars, Ukraine? Why do you cancel russia's culture imposed on you if you fail to create your own? We don't. Yet a big part of our culture for centuries has been here — in Ukraine's Invisible Pavilion.
