@beccamale sensitive projects, people kept them to refer to over a number of years. It was one of the first of this type of part work to target handicrafts and certainly seems the broadest. It was also published in the US, so print quantities and many remain as a result.

Okay #KnittingTwitter, help a girl out: I'm looking for info on a 1970s craft publication called 'Golden Hands'. I keep coming across it in archives and private collections so I know it was popular. Has anyone written about it in detail? Or even in passing?

@beccamale them as part of their weekly house keeping than they could a book, for example. Golden Hands also included many crafts and therefore appealed to a much wider base and commissioned respected craftspeople in their respective fields to create the projects. As they were not time

@beccamale household had a newspaper delivered so the reach was enormous. They also advertised the part works on TV - with only 3 channels and one of these having ads, they again reached a huge sector of the population. Part works were also affordable and women could more easily purchase

@beccamale I think what made it so popular was that the publishers, Marshall Cavendish were extremely successful and well known at this time, in particular for this type of part-works which could be reserved at your newsagent or delivered with your newspaper (at this time pretty much every

Finally, I hope to crochet an edging around the four sides of the blanket, and it will be done. I genuinely can't think of anything more perfect and beautiful to remember mum by, and will treasure it for the rest of my life.

At some point, mum tired of knitting the squares, so I put them away for another day. After mum's death, I remembered these precious squares and work is now afoot to join the squares into strips and then the strips together to make a blanket.

Several years ago, my mum decided to try knitting once more. She had knitted most of her adult life until her stroke impacted her ability to do so. Slowly, she rebuilt her skills but was limited to knitting squares.

but she is finally able to rest. I'm now returning to 'normality' and getting back to work whilst also trying to be kind to myself - not always the easiest combination! I miss this fierce, contrary, tiny woman so very much 💔

Cruelly, a few months ago she was also diagnosed with metastatic ovarian cancer after her weight began to drop dramatically. The last few weeks she declined rapidly and needed constant care, but finally died peacefully in her sleep. Its been a really difficult & traumatic time

I've been off line for some time whilst we cared for my mum, Lorna, who sadly died last week at home. Her wishes were to remain in her own home & despite struggling to access care we managed to do so. This is the last photo we have of mum, taken in 2021 at my daughters wedding.

@woolhour Good evening, #WoolHour, this woolly week I have mostly been enjoying the first clue of the annual Westknits MKAL. Blurring because potential spoilers, no indecency 😆 Yarn is @astitchintime Byre, a delight in and of itself.

Something very special is coming soon! The next pattern in A Stitch in Time volume 3 will be this fabulous fair isle cardigan. I'll share its name soon and also a little more about its claim to fame. In the meantime I hope you're as excited as I am about this one!
