Month after month, the world has watched as Israel treated Palestinians in Gaza as a subhuman group unworthy of human rights and dignity, demonstrating its intent to physically destroy them.

It is an unspeakable tragedy that innocent children continue to be killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, with another 20 children becoming the latest victims of this conflict. A school being used as a shelter in central Gaza was shelled, killing at least 22 people, including 15 children. In a separate incident, five children were reportedly killed by a drone strike while playing on a street corner in northern Gaza. We simply cannot accept the violence that Palestinian children continue to face as normal. We are continuing to urge the UK government to use their power and influence to secure an immediate, definitive ceasefire, and suspend all arms sales to the Government of Israel.

I don’t like sharing graphic images but I just saw a Palestinian child burning alive trapped under the rubble of Israel’s latest “act of self-defence”. A child. Burning alive.

Several joined the #ISPP2024 business meeting, making three key demands: 1) Form a Palestinian committee to lead statute changes and initiatives; 2) Open a fund to aid Palestinian scholars; 3) Cut ties with Israeli academic institutions, in line with #BDS guidelines.

Exactly four months ago, children in Gaza held a press conference in english to beg the world to stop the bombardment. Almost 15,000 children have been killed since then. No one listened.

17 months apart, 2 different emails. I am struggling to explain to my Middle Eastern students and colleagues that they matter. Their lives matter. Their families matter. Their research matter. If human rights apply to everyone, then what’s the point? No statement is a statement.
