@ASHAOwesMeMoney Of thousands of persons doing Facilitated Communication in U.S. for more than 35 years, this unique case of unethical behavior going to trial in 2017 when you give rare incidents within minutes is very misleading. What about rate of sexual abuse of among nonspeakers with no FC?

@ASHAOwesMeMoney Why are you posting all these old incidents at the same time four days ago? At least this incident did not take place 32 years ago but only five years ago in January 2021. Still I think you are giving a misleading impression of great harm by rare false charges of sexual abuse.

@ASHAOwesMeMoney Just noting there is only one statement from 2012 from one former proponent Janyce Boynton about incident that took place in 1992 and no other statements from any other former proponents of Facilitated Communication in over 30 years. Janyce Boynton was only facilitator once.

@EMPIREREPORTNY groups.io/g/AutismFC which I invite you to read. AltB, who makes negative comments against spellers and their supporters, is very wrong to claim older spellers drop out because it is hard to maintain what he calls the "illusion" but I understand the real difficulties [3/3]

@HBurroughs8319 @SkeptInquirer opponents are misrepresenting the facts about spellers for over 40 years and the truth is that many spellers have done message passing tests but there are reasons such tests are inappropriate for the spellers, including my own son Ben who "failed" on May 3, 1994 at age 22. @FCisnotScience & @jimtemu - While Vasquez 94 is a weak citation by Biklen, where does it state "The boy couldn’t FC" and it was a "nonverbal girl?" Leaving out certain words in describing the girls answers is intentionally misleading to me, as I will discuss in message on io website AutismFC.

Interesting. I'll go back and read this. Definitely worth a blog post. And, no, I don't think most proponents read beyond the titles. I've seen proponents cite anti-FC articles because the titles seemed to support their position.

@DrJerroldCoe @FCisnotScience @atbeyond Vasquez ‘94 is interesting. Two kids, blinded testing. The boy couldn’t FC. The nonverbal girl, they discovered *during* the study, could talk and type on her own, and “blurted out” the answers. They kept her data anyway. Do FC people read what they cite? Doesn’t seem like it.

@berutei @message2garcia @FCisnotScience @berutei - No wrongful conviction, although Julian Wendrow being jailed for 80 days after accusation by poorly trained facilitator was bad enough. My opinion, based on my extensive knowledge of Facilitated Communication (FC), problem was poor training, not FC itself.

@FCisnotScience The prosecutor in Wendrow confronted me with Vasquez ‘94, apparently to show that FC could work with a girl like the girl in the case. She apparently hadn’t read the part about how the supposedly nonverbal FC girl “blurted out” the answers. I pointed that out from the stand.

@annephillipssea @message2garcia @jimtemu @FCisnotScience nonspeakers using a spelling method (such as by ABA Prof. James T. Todd), when it is actually so rare. What haunts me is the actual sexual abuse of nonspeakers with no means of communication, so easily done by any caregivers including unethical ABA therapists, which Todd hides.
