Pretty happy with how this came out. 8 hidden wires, and the other 13 mostly grouped together. #PS2 #modchip

Spent the last few days troubleshooting, and now my #PSXBlueRetro install is finally done – as you can see in the pics and video! The buzzer is still way too quiet (on the list ✅), but hey – it’s fully working! 😎 #PS1 #RetroGaming #Modding

Thanks @Arthrimus for making the frame public. Decided to update from XCM Ghost to Bitfunx purple to match the chip. Thanks to Polaris for the modchip friendly cut. Shell needed some fine tuning to make power button and trigger front lid sensor properly.

PS1 with Mayumi v4, MFO and GameID patched bios. This one also needed the ac coupling capacitor for composite replaced due to dark picture/wrong colors. I did this after these photos were taken unfortunately.

You can’t buy this little 70k PS2 motor flex separately from the replacement motors you find online. They tear easily, but I don’t need the whole motor. KiCad to the rescue. Will pop this on GitHub at some point. OEM vs new.

A bit of context.. I’ve seen a few times where people have gone to remove the optical assembly, and have forgotten to unplug this flex. The flex tears at the pads when it gets pulled. Repairable, but will just be nice to have these on hand to replace them.

@atherismods ooohh, excellent effort! Randomly came across this post as a X suggestion (just set up a new X for my new YT channel). I'm about to do 40+ ps2s over the summer. Any list of which you have? I can happily post any I find if they are missing on your list.

1/2 I’ve been working on a fun little project that’ll help diagnose issues with old PS2 modchips. A lot of old, original modchips I’ve found are in bad shape from age and repeated installs; with lifted pads, broken vias or deteriorating solder mask. Modbo 5 as an example:

@michael_pw316 As cool as that sounds, it’s not my place. If someone were to do something open source though, I’d be all for it!

@rezenclowd3 And that’s honestly my only intention. Nice to preserve and save some old aging tech. Personally no interest in the FPGA or flash, as I’m only aiming this at basic repair with respect for the original designers work. Just hope it helps save a few old scuffed up modchips 🙂

@atherismods So awesome to be able to save the history of these. Then the only non-replaceable part is the FPGA... of course may be difficult to find eeprom/nor-flash but at least for now still possible to find NOS, and all passives are easy. Woot!
