I dabbled a bit with homepages in the 90s. Not on a professional level or for commercial projects, but mainly for setting up a Dungeons & Dragons page for our group and later a private homepage. It was certainly a Wild West vibe back then, with some of the most cringeworthy websites - including mine, I’m sure. Typical elements of any amateur site included: 1) The counter (“You are visitor number…”) 2) The “under construction” GIF 3) The email GIF 4) Link4Link exchange banners Some counters incremented +1 on every page reload, so you could easily inflate your numbers. Others were a bit more advanced and only counted real visits. Some had the most "oh God, my eyes!" layouts and worst color choices, such as red font on blue backgrounds, the eternal sin. As cringe as they look from today’s perspective, I’d love to have kept mine, just for shits and giggles. Did you have your own site? If so, what was it for?

@exQUIZitely Remember how MacroMedia Flash 4.0 changed the world and we got Web 2.0? - Absolutely hate Adobe for buying Macromedia and running it into the ground.

@usa_retro @hitmanmcc also you posted how to do it, the store button. Hold it down perhaps, that should bring up the scan. If i hadn't seen that I'd have suggested pressing all 4 those buttons, or a combination of them. but yep, scan and store the signal channel.

@usa_retro @hitmanmcc sorry saw the post late, but what Andre said! Had this TV (not when it came out) + as far as Philips TV's its beautiful but a gadget really, very limited compared to age peers. EU scanning is default, as many countries and frequencies. Any TV you had to scan/store channels.

Are there any PAL experts out there? I've got this PAL TV with PAL gear but nothing is syncing. PAL TV, PAL N64, & PAL RF adapter.

I really like deal hunting, and it's just not the same digital as digging out some game or cartridge on a flea market/boot/garage sale. Plenty of times I'll get multiple copies that way

There it's common to have the crack verified but not spread in the first months so the game can sell to support the devs.

I did at one point have a full N64 rom library w/ ps1/2.

But yeah like its just so convenient to have an xbox center stage, kinda like I know a lot of people have a Pi or similar - i just like it being a real actual console

@cliffsrepaircor It'll save you the advice of people telling you to cook/boil the original belt in water -> those o-rings/gaskets you'll find in every hardware store for a few cents each (or a bag of 100 for like 2 bucks in china)

@cliffsrepaircor Good luck mate, sounds like you'll have fun :) If I was a betting man I'd say edge traces is probably the culprit - oh ps, if you do need to work on the Thomson - 26mm x 1.5mm is the right size o-ring/gasket to replace the belt that open/closes the drive. all other brands 22x1.5

Got this as a free Xbox and I'm scratching my head about this because the motherboard and power supply look to be in good shape and the only thing that looks to be bad is the original shell so I'm rather curious if the original show is causing some kind of short I didn't power the system on myself whenever I hear that I have a system that's acting up I like to inspect it before doing anything else so I'm curious to see if anything bad would actually happen since essentially all the bottom is just a ground plane but switching things that would be a good idea too

@cliffsrepaircor Yep, that always works, run it to luke warm, couple of minutes without the fan - easy peasy lemon squeezy :) but hot air will work too (avoid a hairblower though -> static). Yeah I love Googone, its just hard to come by outside of the states - but - wd40 + IPA does the trick too

Actually it's funny that you mentioned that the goo be gone seems to work the best for me at least in my experience if you don't want to turn the system on you can hit the heat sink with just a little bit of hot air to warm it up a little bit and give it a slight twist and pop it off

@TwinzDynamic Oooh, if you're in the UK -> CEX has a lot of them literally starting at pennies - now's the time to start - If I still had access to buying stuff in the UK like I did years back, it would be something I'd be picking up to collect for sure!

Easy pick: The Original Xbox, since besides it's own gigantic library, it will also play every relevant retro console (and then some) in emulation up to PS1/N64 (ok, that gen with some issues, but anything up to that super smooth).

@cliffsrepaircor Hmm, honestly give GooGone a try - or WD40 if you're not in the states, both do magic after soaking. I cut size of the pad in 2-3 layers of toilet paper, drench in wd40 and soak. works for board and alu-blocks - try on the aluminum first to see how you like that method :)

@beepfixer Actually something new and interesting that I've been playing with is taking scrunched up tin foil of course removing the bracket and you start rubbing it back and forth and I'll remove rust pretty quick and leave a clean surface
