@BobDylan530 Agreed—I do not support realignment. Because political parties have become amorphous formations in American politics, I argue that we should take advantage of the ballot line to win elections, ideally with cadre candidates who have a deep relationship with DSA.

@atmorithia And I do think that means *some* entryism is necessary, the reason the Republican Party was able to form and take power so quickly in the 1800s is because it was made up of a bunch of Whigs who bailed together. I just don’t think “take over the democrats” is a viable end goal

I don't agree with everything in the recent SMC article but like... the part people seem to be taking issue with is critique of PSL? I think its okay to critique PSL, and you shouldn't need to qualify to be able to critique them?

@BobDylan530 In the case where Democrats go the way of the Whigs, then it would be more pressing than ever to have a bench of experienced socialist legislators and executive officeholders who have cut their teeth winning elections. DSA is the only party-like formation building that bench.

@atmorithia I think we don’t agree about the viability of entryism here, personally I think we’re absolutely fucked unless the Democrats go the way of the Whigs, which means we need to be prepared to fill that vacuum

@BobDylan530 Specifically, leading people on that third-party candidates are going to be as successful as socialists running as Democrats isn't great. Management of the continuity is extremely important in my opinion—DSA is *the* place to be in my opinion to build socialism in this country.

@BobDylan530 I think for me, putting PSL and DSA candidates into the "socialist candidates" box ignores the massive differences between the two electoral strategies in play, the traditions they come from, and the goals they each seek to achieve.

@BobDylan530 Yeah, the graphic stuff is where I was losing the plot... As a devout party surrogatist though, it is very frustrating to see third-party campaigns assert themselves as a continuation of the electoral victories DSA built. I get annoyed when Trotskyist sects do it too!

@atmorithia I think the issue is that the specific critique being made is for them using red in a graphic and making endorsements in statewide elections in California, both of which are pretty trivial and mundane things to do

My caucus, @dsa_constella, is premised on the unification of the left's constellation of struggles through DSA. While I think it best to do so through positive distinction, not negative, I do believe its good to clarify the ways in which DSA is different than groups like PSL.

Just a general point that we (on the U.S. left and in the solidarity movement) should align our language with that of the BDS movement in calling for a comprehensive military embargo, not just an arms embargo bdsmovement.net/military-embar…

I drove by a fairly large church building today and daydreamt about having a beautiful DSA Convention there

Some started as factions or splits from other caucuses. Some might have factions now or will someday. Some of the caucuses now won’t exist in a few years. It all changes over time, and the key is to always prioritize DSA as an entire org, whether you’re in a caucus or not.
Urbaneblob 🇵🇸🌹@urbaneblob

I’ll be totally real, there are some DSA caucuses that could have just been factions within another preexisting caucus and it would’ve made more sense

@giovanettanyc If DSA can find a property it deems affordable that can reasonably host a 1,000 person convention, ideally with some administrative space, breakout rooms space, and accessibility needs either met or easily renovatable, then why not!
