A man who listens only to men is like a bird trying to fly with one wing—much flapping, little progress, and everyone else wondering why he keeps going in circles.

one of the most helpful things to understand the difference between wealth and money money is a medium of exchange for commerce wealth, as defined by david deutsch, is: the set of transformations that one is capable of for example, assume you have a time machine and you went back to the caveman era also assume that you went with a bunch of gold or cash in your backpack. obviously, that "money" is now useless what makes you wealthy in that context is your knowledge. you know how to make fire, what foods are safe to eat, how to grow food, etc with that knowledge, you amass resources. then maybe at some point in the future humans invent a medium of exchange for those resources and you can measure your wealth in that thing but the physics are that wealth was derived from applying your knowledge to cause a transformation such is the case for all companies and technology. in essence, they figure out how to transport some input to some output (i.e we figured out how to convert sand into thinking machines and the people who did this are now obscenely rich and have a whole region named after them) and so if wealth is knowledge, then learning is the way to amass wealth companies in general are structured learning machines. they test out some conjecture, it doesn't work, then they learn and modify until it works once it does work, they then learn how to produce that thing at higher and higher efficiency (e.g., moore's law) but fundamentally all progress is about learning, think about that the next time you use AI. you can either use it to learn faster, or you can use it to learn on your behalf the latter will ensure you stagnate

RON PAUL: “There’s been a coup. We don’t have any resemblance to a government that believes in a republic. We don’t have honest money. We don’t have integrity. We don’t even have people in Washington who even pretend… to tell the truth.” “[I believe the coup began on] November 22, 1963.” IAN CROSSLAND: “What happened on that day?” RON PAUL: “That was the day Kennedy was murdered by our government. You know, by the CIA.”

My fireside chat with the CEO of Western Union. > you crypto people think real time settlement is new > we've been doing real time settlement for 20 years > you can go to a WU and send money to your mom in guatemala and it lands in 3 seconds > but that only happens because I have liquidity pool of $1.5B > stablecoins are going to give me back that $1.5B > my stock trades at $2.7B > I'm going to take that $1.5B and use it to buy back a boat load of my stock > oh and also, we're going to use stablecoins to give all 100m+ customers a US dollar debit card aka mini bank account Stablecoins aren't going to kill Western Union... They're going to save it.

It’s really very simple: He wants government regulation that anoints his company as part of an oligopoly. The worst outcome for him is to have spent hundreds of billions training frontier models only for them to plateau and be replaced for most tasks by open-source models running on local devices. He has publicly talked about how risky this rate of capex spend is, and if they are wrong only slightly in their usage projections, they will go bankrupt. The way to protect against this is to fear monger enough that the government steps in and says only company x y z get to run LLMs above a certain size for safety reasons. This ensures his company won’t be undercut by some open-source Chinese model that can run on a Mac mini and satisfy 95% of consumer demand for AI. This is very similar to Meta-led fear mongering about TikTok. They wanted their competition blocked from the marketplace.
Chief Nerd@TheChiefNerd

🚨 Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei: “We are so close to these models reaching the level of human intelligence, and yet there doesn't seem to be a wider recognition in society of what's about to happen … There hasn't been a public awareness of the risks.”

Liberal Americans have been conditioned to believe protest is polite, funny, respectful, performative, and above all else, nonviolent. The most violent government in the world is not going to relinquish power due to a fucking message made of people on a beach.

Libertarianism is a lie. A 19 year old with $40,000 in student debt, addicted to pornography, gambling his pittance wage on draftkings, eating ultra-processed slop laced with additives, with no vocational skills, no family stability, no community, and no cultural framework for meaning is not "free". He is comprehensively captured by systems specifically engineered to exploit him.

Silicon Valley thinks AI agents are a $20/mo self-serve subscription. Main Street is paying local agencies $10,000 just to turn them on. Everyone assumes AI will be bought primarily online like Slack or Zoom. I think they are wrong. Some of the biggest winners in the AI boom won't be the software vendors. It will be the humans installing it. Here is the reality of SMBs right now: • 54% lack internal AI expertise. • 41% have data quality too poor for AI to even work. • 41% already prefer buying AI through a local IT provider. You cannot "1-click install" a genius AI into a messy CRM or a 15-year-old server. It will just execute the wrong tasks at the speed of light. The AI software will be cheap and a lot will absolutely be bought online. Making it actually work for a messy, real-world business will be expensive. Very bullish on the "Do It For Me" economy being back.

One of our F-35s got hit over Iran. Thank God the pilot is safe. Those planes cost $100 million. USS Gerald Ford had a huge fire a week ago that took 30 hours to put out. That's the type of thing that happens when you're deployed for twice the length you're supposed to be. Israel is running our military into the ground for their wars. All of the bullshitters in DC told us that this war would be easy, quick and cheap. Now, they're asking for $200 billion. Let alone all the cost of all our downed planes (five now), higher gas prices we all have to pay, and most importantly, our fallen soldiers (at least 13 now). Are we sure Israel is our ally? Or do they view us as an easy mark. Our system allows for legalized bribery, so they did the logic thing and bought all our politicians. And then our media tells us that our politicians are too honorable to be affected by hundreds of millions of dollars from the Israeli lobby. Hilarious. They seem to have us on lock down. Funny thing for an ally to do.

This article explained how to sell to an agent, but it missed one thing: Freemium. How is an agent supposed to try your product if it’s stuck behind a paywall? Today, that changes. In collaboration with @coinbase, we’ve released AgentKit, which extends x402 with Anonymous Proof of Human. Now your agents can prove to any x402 API that they’re backed by a human. Freemium makes sense again, but only with World ID. @worldnetwork
