@FullCountChaos I really believe Elias assumed we’d win a bunch of 8-6, 9-7 games, which is why he built the entire pitching staff the way he did. He knew they would just be at best average and the offense would carry the team. They’re like the bengals or cowboys of MLB.

Hilarious that Verducci talks about how difficult it is these days for hitters to be able to hit these pitchers in mlb, but the Orioles arms are giving up double digit runs every other night. I assume Elias was counting on this offense to put up double digit runs every night.
Glenn Clark@GlennClarkRadio

#MLB Analyst Tom Verducci explained some of the problems he sees with the #Orioles roster: “Here’s the problem with building a team whose DNA is offense: It’s a pitching-dominated league… The easier way forward is what the Rays are doing. A contact-oriented team.” #Birdland

@BillyMcburner @jcalvinmeyer Exactly. He’d have head scratching starts, 3IP, 9H, 7ER, 4BB, 2Ks and baseball people would be dumbfounded, wondering what in the heck happened to him. Baltimore and its coaching and pitching lab, that’s what happened.

AL rotation ERA leaderboard: 1. Rays — 3.03 ERA 2. Yankees — 3.21 ERA … 15. Orioles — 5.24 ERA The Orioles have the worst rotation ERA in the AL. They rank 29th in MLB, ahead of only the Colorado Rockies (5.62 ERA).

@thejkuyken1 @ThirstRoundPick I’m so envious of how TB plays the game. Their situational hitting is off the charts. They don’t chase exit velo, they use the whole field especially with 2 strikes, they run the bases well. Just a fundamentally sound, smart team.

@ThirstRoundPick Rays putting on an absolute clinic on how to do the following things: 1. Throw strikes/get ahead 2. Hit with RISP 3. Hit with two strikes Pretty much everything that good teams do. How awesome would it be if we ever had a team that would do these things.

@AlexFast8 @ByMattWeyrich Right and the 3rd, 4th and 5th ones were outs. So basically, you have 50/50 chance of getting a hit no matter how hard you hit it. So don’t chase it…..with 2 strikes……and the ball on the outer third of the plate…..to roll it over to an infielder.

Orioles' Trevor Rogers got to 2 outs with runners on second & third in the 2nd inning. Here's what Rays did from there: Yandy Díaz two-run single Jonathan Aranda single Junior Caminero RBI single Ryan Vilade walk Jonny DeLuca two-run double Chandler Simpson groundout 6-0 Rays

@ThyWill70 @Orioles @jcalvinmeyer Exit velo apologists will say that’s too much work for one run. Why put that much stress on an opposing pitcher and defense when you can just swing your hardest, launch it just right and try to hit it over the wall

@atrainxprs @Orioles Absolutely! The Mets just walked off the Yankees with two infield hits. Benge’s chopper stayed in the infield. He put the ball in play. And before that Ewing laid down a sacrifice bunt to get Semien over to third. He scored on the infield hit. @jcalvinmeyer

@ThyWill70 @Orioles Ikr! I’d take a soft sub-95mph exit velo liner through a hole over a 110mph foul ball or line-out every day of the week.

@masnRoch The Rays are licking their chops. I truly believe one of 3 things happen, if not this series, then soon. The O’s will either be no-hit, perfect gamed or a pitcher will set the record against them with 21 k’s. It’s inevitable with this clusterf*ck of a roster and it’s philosophy

@ByMattWeyrich Yes, because that has proven to work this season and last 🙄. Look at the rays. Look at the blue jays last year especially in the post season. My goodness, adapt!! Just look at the past few weeks when the very few times the orioles did put the ball in play, they actually scored!

Craig Albernaz was asked if the Orioles should try for less hard contact & focus on putting more balls in play. His answer: No, “I think we all know in this game, especially at this level, when you hit the ball soft, it’s probably not going to be a hit.” baltimoresun.com/2026/05/16/ori…

The Orioles have given all three runs they scored in the top half of the 7th back to Washington, plus another. Keegan Akin faces 7 batters and retires one of them. Keibert Ruiz delivers the decisive blow on a two-run single. Nationals lead 8-3.

Orioles' Coby Mayo just nearly tied the game in the 7th inning on a 111 mph, 406-foot drive to left field that just hooked foul. Call confirmed after a crew-chief review.

@masnRoch Ho hum, just another game I turned off the moment the ball cleared the fence. A 2nd inning 3-0 deficit is just too insurmountable for this team to overcome….just like last week, just like last month, just like last year. I’d rather watch paint dry than this disaster of a team.
