Caught up with a friend over coffee the other day. She’s a millionaire, debt-free, and earns ~$285,000 per year. But she’s thinking about walking away from it all to travel the world full-time. Maybe the real “risk” isn’t leaving. It’s staying.

So @turbotax hasn’t figured out, even with their online app, that Washington State DOES have an income tax — on capital gains. You can get all the way through the thing and it’ll say “looks like you’re not eligible for the WA working families tax credit, so good news, there’s nothing to file!” Uh, no. That hasn’t been true for a couple years now for those with significant capital gains. Caution to WA filers.

Whales spotted off Alki with the Seattle skyline and Space Needle in unreal early morning encounter 🐋 Early morning in Seattle turned unreal. Spotted around 8:30am on 3/26, a group of whales cruised through with the skyline and the Space Needle sitting right behind them… a moment that doesn’t even look real. The craziest part? There’s a whole WhatsApp group tracking sightings in real time… and this view was worth jumping in the car for. Close enough to hear their blows echo across the water. I am getting out of WA state. King County/Kirkland has been good to me. The house I bought for $65K, with a 13% interest rate, in 1985, is now worth over $1.3Million. As a tear-down. I do have to sell, soon, though. Because all of the millionaires, will be leaving.
