Love to see it. Until artists can consent to and are properly compensated for their IP being used to train AI models, I’ll feel icky about using it. Building revolutionary design tools ethically doesn’t have to be this hard.

There’s nothing more satisfying than recommending someone for a job, then they get that job, and then the hiring manager says “great recco btw, we love them!” This my drug of choice.

As VFX become increasingly essential to every film production, the expectations become more unrealistic, the exploitation becomes even more evident, and it's about time VFX artists unionize. If we can't learn to make good films w/o exploitation, we need to build another system.

@audgeyaudgey Yeah, my guess is that standard intellectual property law applies somehow, but also lots of people aren’t letting that stop them. Haha.

Any good threads on the legality of using unlicensed art to train AI models? I’d like to know more, but Google search is v limited.

@treemershon I certainly hope so. I would imagine putting the genie back in the bottle will be it’s own battle.

@audgeyaudgey I think there will be a reckoning on this in the next year or so, and a lot of models will have to be retrained on rights-cleared content for commercial use. Just like the early days of audio sampling.
