@fesshole It’s the poison of social media becoming the major source of news and information for so many, aggravated by seemingly unregulated news outlets and the sense of community created by AI bots masquerading as fellow bigots. It’s already influenced elections and referendums.

My dad, who I didn't think was stupid, appears to have become radicalised. He was parroting populist views when I met him today and I couldn't believe it. It's not just idiots who can fall prey to years upon years of repeated messages in the media. Scary and dangerous times.

@BBCScotlandNews I think that the story should really clarify that this refers only to the Lerwick Up Helly Aa - other Up Helly Aas have been more egalitarian for some time. My good friend and distant relative Lesley Simpson was the first female Guizer Jarl at the South Mainland event in 2015.
