The Reckoning of Roku cover revealed Seems like it has gone up a day earlier than expected on Amazon Brazil. Randy Ribay on instagram is teasing some sort of reveal tomorrow which I assume is the "proper" reveal of the cover. New artist compared to the Kyoshi/Yangchen Novels.

This is the kind of vapid, meaningless criticism you get when people try to treat writing like math. Storytelling is not a series of logical equations to be solved.

@avatarhour @AvatarNetflix Like being a bender.. a great bender is in her genes, it's natural to her but she hasn't been able to flourish in this war torn world and in the sexist NWT. But she's now free of those shackles.

@last_podcasters @AvatarNetflix I’d love to know if there is a parallel to real life martial arts. Can you become a master of that by yourself? I totally believe that someone in the Avatar world can be a self taught master, we just haven’t really seen one yet until now, which is honestly pretty cool

@avatarhour @AvatarNetflix The only other self taught bender that comes close to a master would be Zaheer. But I think that makes Katara even more special. I also think of it in real life terms that there are countless people who are experts or pros at things with no formal training.

@last_podcasters @AvatarNetflix Interesting. Idk, there’s no precedent that I know of in canon of someone become a self taught master (Wan?) so idk what to make of it. I guess bc finding teachers are such an important catalyst in the original show it’s hard for me to see it any other way (but that’s on me)

@avatarhour @AvatarNetflix I think or hope people could just assume he's not good enough at the other elements. Like I even think if Aang wasn't taught by monk Gyatso, he would be able to become a self taught airbending master.

@last_podcasters @AvatarNetflix I like this as well, my only thing is what happens when Aang needs to find bending masters to teach him the other elements and the audience wonders why he can’t just teach himself like Katara did. Unless, that’s where the writers are going for seasons 2 and 3…

@AvatarNetflix I will die on the hill that Katara Being a self taught master is an improvement. It's a great arc that's starts with Gran Gran giving her the water bending scroll, telling her to reclaim what the world took from her, and she reclaimed that herself, not some sexist old man.

I wonder if Avatar Studios will ever do a meta commentary in the next animated show where people argue about who the worst Avatar was

I was gonna say something snarky like “what, are we gonna blame Aang for the Air Nation Genocide next?” And it turns out people are already doing that! I need everyone to be so serious right now.

It’s sad that such a beautiful & nuanced story is being reduced to “X is the worst avatar” or “Y is to blame”. They were tragic victims of their circumstances. Roku was betrayed, Aang was outcasted, Korra was broken - They cant escape that curse because Raava chose to be human.

@last_podcasters At least for me, in school media literacy was always paired with critical analysis, and often used interchangeably. My guess is the internet latched onto the former because it’s slightly more inflammatory/sensational.

For real, I feel like the term "media literacy" came out of no where, like I missed a day of class and the next day all the cool students know something I don't.

@katarawara I’m with you on that! Just pointing out that writers are facing a damned if you do/damned if you don’t scenario specifically when it comes to exposition. Though, I do think a lot of it is studio pressure, and not writers trying to make sure that misinterpretations don’t happen.

@avatarhour Still, I’d rather everyone have multiple fun interpretations than be spoon fed a narrative! Especially if the spoon feeding of info isn’t that smoothly written 🥲

seeing a rise in "this film is bad because it has a bad/mean/evil character in it and I don't support them" rhetoric and I feel like I'm going insane??? Just because the character is IN the film it doesn't mean the film is saying they're correct?? wtf is going on open the schools

Screen grabbed this from TikTok of them applying Bumi’s facial prosthesis on the actor. The fact that they even used a reference image tells you everything you need to know about the level of love and dedication to the original show!

Honestly if the writers trust the audience more and cut even a quarter of the exposition, we’ll be golden for season 2 & 3 ❤️ They’re clearly fans and I think just trusting us and trusting the OG material’s characterization of the main characters will make the show top tier

You earned serious bragging rights you caught all of these Easter eggs in AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER

Jeong Jeong wasn’t in S1, so we might not see Master Piandao in S3. Sokka can still get his space sword through other means. Hama and the Southern Raiders absolutely have to be included in S3 though. Those are big episodes for Katara and it would be a shame to cut them from LA.

You can still have the major character moments (namely Zuko confronting Ozai) without the Day of Black Sun arc, it would just be a shame (and casual fans will absolutely hate it) but if they’re sticking to 8 1-hour episodes, they might not have a choice.

Season 3 of the LA Show will either have to drastically increase its episode runtimes, or do a 12 episode season split in half as a Part 1 and Part 2. That is if they’re even including the Day of Black Sun. Which honestly…has a chance of being cut.
