They, and by extension you, went out of the way to say it when it wasn’t a part or reasonably related to the topic at hand (bad advertising choice).

When discussing gun deaths in children you ABSOLUTELY should bring race into it as it’s literally only ONE group of children where that’s true and they die at such an exaggerated rate that it skews all child deaths. You can’t address a problem if you can’t even be honest about the reality of it.

Wait until you discover handguns. The vast majority of shootings are done with them. You just see a larger gun and think "that looks scary," so you have a reaction to it. If anything, there are more people and kids shot by handguns every day in many black neighborhoods in areas where there are high levels of gun control. Yet you rarely see that talked about. Instead, it's "big scary gun, that must mean school shooting."
