@SimonDyakowski @P_Ratchford This was a 2014 deal under the Harper government and it was publicly reported at the time. What exactly is “secret” or “corrupt” about it now a decade later?

@P_Ratchford yes and those involved in the secret dealing should face justice under anti-corruption laws. Prison and asset seizure. There needs to be a deterrent from defrauding the public on the basis of race.

@Apocalyptikrieg @JimMcMurtry01 Reserve land → protected, not freely sold Aboriginal title → rights recognized, not sold Modern treaty land → can function more like owned land, with broader powers

Vancouver Canucks have Indigenous nights and land acknowledgments because the Aquilini family (worth 3.3 billion) is richly paid by the Musqueam, Squamish and Burrard bands to develop Jericho Lands, Heather Lands, Willingdon Lands…

@Apocalyptikrieg @JimMcMurtry01 And you’re saying it’s different at Canucks games because of title cases …but title cases have never resulted in fee simple or Crown land being sold. Ok 👌

@avery_lorrie @JimMcMurtry01 And your gibberish has nothing to do with your original response that Native appreciation is everywhere! Its not the same! That was my point which went over your head!

@Apocalyptikrieg @JimMcMurtry01 Sen̓áḵw is reserve land (Kitsilano Indian Reserve No. 6). Unlike Willingdon Lands, which were purchased, Sen̓áḵw is federally designated reserve land ..not an MST/Aquilini project. It’s also different from Aboriginal title.

@Apocalyptikrieg @JimMcMurtry01 Correct …the Willingdon Lands (kʷasən Village) is not a “land title case” like Tsilhqot’in. It’s a private commercial land purchase, not a court-ordered declaration of title.

@Apocalyptikrieg @JimMcMurtry01 It’s never happened legally … yes people are concerned after the Cowichan case. Tsilhqot’in title was recognized over a decade ago, and it didn’t lead to land being sold off…crown or fee simple.

@avery_lorrie @JimMcMurtry01 You know that Indigenous claims supercede Fee Simple, Freehold & Govt. Crown land including Aquilini projects right? The rich like the Aquilinis can buy more land for cheap after the natives claim it!

@Apocalyptikrieg @JimMcMurtry01 Aquilini projects / MST developments have nothing to do with title claims the land was directly purchased during a Liberal government in BC.

@avery_lorrie @JimMcMurtry01 Except the Tsawwassen, Musqueum, Squamish and Cowichan Bands are fighting each other for indigenous rights over 2M homeowners of Metro Vancouver. Only BC & Eastern Provinces have Unceded land & because of the Cowichan win in Richmond BC set a precedent for more lawsuits to claim!

@puckerglen @JimMcMurtry01 I’m Indigenous ..great to see this in the sport, whether Vancouver gets him or not. My comment was a reaction to the Indigenous has nothing to do with hockey posts. And of course teams want top draft picks.

@avery_lorrie @JimMcMurtry01 I wont defend the way this team has been run by shitty managers or a piece of shit owner, but the notion they're tanking for a player simply because of him being Indigenous is a bad reach. Thru the years they've had many...heck, one of their top scouts is Cree

The Squamish appropriated Roman characters and marks when inventing their dictionary in 2011. The number 7 signifies a sharp break in sound, like “uh-oh.” Uh-oh! No one in the world speaks Squamish as a first language, and no one can write or read it.

@JimMcMurtry01 The Canucks started land acknowledgements in 2019 more to do with the TRC, like other Canadian teams. Yes they are often visits by Chief Sparrow (Musqueam) or Squamish Nation representatives.

@JimMcMurtry01 More likely they’re trying to land the top draft pick who’s Indigenous… being the first NHL team eliminated this year helps too! 😏

@flyingfishjewel @JimMcMurtry01 These MST projects are creating jobs. I work in construction safety …contractors are glad to be on these long-term projects. The land was bought more than a decade ago and developed with private partners. Not sure how that’s “breaking the camel’s back”.

@avery_lorrie @JimMcMurtry01 Because now people feel threatened, because of cowichan decision, but also now that BC is in incredible debt, people are questioning spending on indigenous. The camel's back has been broken.

The 6887 reserve members of the Musqueam, Squamish and Burrard bands were given public land and money to form MST Development Corporation which is worth over $3 billion. All three separately claim Vancouver and all three pay no taxes. This is cultural genocide.

@JimMcMurtry01 Jericho and Heather Lands have been in development since the mid-2010s — years of public consultation and city approvals. Why the outrage now?

@JimMcMurtry01 MST’s been around since about 2010 buying land, getting permits and paying taxes. Jericho and Heather go back to the mid-2010s over a decade in the making. This started under Gordon Campbell. They bought from Canada Lands Company. It’s all public not exactly something new.

@JimMcMurtry01 Yes but Sen̓áḵw is not an MST project it’s 100% Squamish Nation, on Squamish reserve land, developed by Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation.

Readers who added context to my post should know the Musqueam and Squamish collaborate through MST Development Corporation.

@One_BCHQ If the party is growing, what happened to your candidates? No announcements when they left doesn’t look very transparent.

OneBC is rising! Mainstreet Research put OneBC at around 8% back in December but 3 months later they neglected to name our party in their latest BC poll. And unsurprisingly the "Another Party" option polled at 13%, 2% ahead of the BC Greens at 11%. Now let's not be pedantic here, OneBC is the only other serious party outside of the main 3 Centre and Left-wing parties. OneBC has had massive town halls in every city, town, or island we have visited, and 13% in a poll would reflect the support we are receiving online and in person. Join us: 1bc.ca
