We don’t punish criminals. Western societies tend to punish taxpayers instead. Commit a crime? You get free housing, food and healthcare, all at taxpayer expense with added premiums of for-profit incarceration. As a society we need fast death penalty for violent crimes and crimes against personal property. Stole a bike? 1 hand chopped off. Stole something again? Save lives by involuntary total organ donation. Prison is not a deterrent, but a vacation.
