@bugloaf @dykemedla Emmet Kelly was the one who popularized that archetype FULLY. It was based on racist caricatures in the 1920s, not the 1870s. Super small nitpick but the history of clowning is important. (2/2)

@bugloaf @dykemedla Few issues with the video: (ALTHOUGH IT MOSTLY CORRECT) Joseph Grimaldi was not a sophisticated clown he was absolutely grotesque, and the sophisticated vs. grotesque clown came from the comedia del arte, not JG. Also the hobo didn’t develop till the Great Depression. (1/2)
