I think most Gauteng residents would agree that David Makhura was the weakest Premier of Gauteng since 1994. There’s nothing tangible to point to from his era. it’s dry dry. Instead, decay began. Nomvula Mokonyane had one term. Gauteng was a construction site under her. Paul Mashatile had one term. Developments continued and expanded. Projects like the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit, Gautrain, and Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project were expanded, alongside the construction of new schools and hospitals. Panyaza Lesufi started with promise. But I’m no longer convinced. His tenure looks like it's gonna be characterised by political manoeuvres for survival. The province is slipping away from the ANC because of leaders like Makhura. Gauteng must avoid more “Makhuras.”
