If you read the post, you'll see, I am (inspired by @dandrezner - but not as funny) going to keep a thread open and going about what roles Kamala plays in the Biden administration and what they tell us about administration priorities.

"Solid B cities might not have the MoMA, but they are likely to have good museums, a great brewery scene, a functional bike path, and a minor-league stadium. To live in a place you can afford with a municipal government that works, this hardly seems like a consolation prize."

AI industry is spending $$ this election cycle, because they are very unpopular. For a decade I’ve written that Silicon Valley ethos would lose public trust. They need to invest in risk communication. It's expensive, but would result in better products. aaronmannes.substack.com/p/technology-r…

I loathe the 10/7 government that offers Israelis no real solutions to their problems but peacocks with measures like the below to pretend they are helping Israelis. Elections can't come soon enough in Israel.
Eli Kowaz - איליי קואז@elikowaz

Despite warnings from Israeli security officials, the Knesset voted 62-48 to pass a law mandating the death penalty for West Bank Palestinians convicted of terrorism. This is a major win for far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and his Jewish Power party.

@BDHerzinger I once toured a Japanese submarine. It was the cleanest I'd ever seen. Looked like it just came out of the shipyard brand new, and you could've eaten off the decks.

I can promise you the Japanese are not cleaning their planes to an immaculate standard because Americans are watching.
Michael Glynn@realmikeglynn

The extent to which JASDF and JMSDF kept their jets cleaned made me think “do they do this all the time or just cuz we’re around?” As an American I’d cynically assume the later. But I’ll tell you a story that made me think the former. The ultimate in Japanese maintenance. ⬇️ It was 2012 and we had just gotten the first USN fleet P-8’s. We flew to NAS Whidbey Island for an ASW exercise and JMSDF P-3s were there. We had hosted a static display to show the jet off to the American and Japanese crews. When we got done, one of the Japanese pilots invited me to visit their jet. We walked across the tarmac and went onboard. The aircraft was FAR cleaner than an American P-3. Not even close. A USN jet would have had scuffs on the paint and floors, tears in seats and armrests, and plenty of cosmetic but non airworthiness issues. Not this airplane. Spotless inside. Suitably pleased I went down the ladder, and saw the ordnance team downloading sonobuoys. The P-3 has an array of external tubes where it caries sonobuoys, the miniature sonar sets used to track submarines. These are the diameter of a CD and weigh about forty pounds. Packed into the chutes, they are contained in a plastic liner called a sonobuoy launch container or “SLC”. The SLC in the P-3 is attached to a pyrotechnic device called a “cad” - basically a shotgun shell that creates pressure to launch the buoy out of the SLC and the chute. As this happens, naturally the SLC gets stained by the gas from the cad. For clarity the SLC is a completely expendable object. A meaningless plastic wrapper that’s thrown away after each flight. And yet, when I saw the ordnance crews they were wiping the insides of the SLCs with rags to clean them before they set them aside to throw them away. Totally expendable objects, being cleaned before being discarded. Maybe the Japanese crews were doing this for our sake. But having worked and flown with them I tend to doubt it. Whoever that JMSDF squadron was that day, they won some foreign hearts and minds.

Even if it strikes the rest of us as unjust, it's at least reasonable for Israeli Jews to want to retain a Jewish-majority state. That's what makes Israel Israel and it's the only country that most Israeli Jews know as their own.
