“All life begins on a banana leaf.” For Vinod, the banana is a recurring motif across the human life cycle—from the moment a newborn child is made to lie on its leaves, to the use of its raw fruit in funeral ceremonies.

🍄🗻 For 38-year-old mushroom collector Tanveer Ahmad, one memory from his childhood remains distinct: of trekking up Kashmir’s mountains to pick morels—a tradition that has sustained their family for generations. It is also Tanveer’s only source of income.

🌱“Grasslands are nature's way of balancing carbon in the air, and carbon in the soil,” says Shashi Kumar (@thiruka), CEO and founder of Akshayakalpa Organic. Indeed, they are some of the Earth’s most powerful carbon sinks, storing one-third of terrestrial carbon. That’s not all; they have another superpower: the ability to regenerate even after fires or grazing. 🌱 youtu.be/EbFvjS3nnfg?fe…

🧵: Picture this: It’s 1944, and a soldier is wounded in World War II—infected, in pain, and at risk of dying from something as simple as a cut. Enter Alexander Fleming’s penicillin—mass produced for the first time, saving thousands of lives in the war. What started as an accidental discovery by Fleming in 1928 soon became the miracle drug that transformed healthcare.

Have you heard of rice fields that flourish in saline waters, nurtured by tidal flows, and alternate between paddy and fish farming with the changing seasons? The Kaipad fields of coastal Kerala—an inspiring model of sustainable agriculture where tradition and innovation meet. At the forefront of this transformation is Dr. Vanaja T., a dedicated researcher from Kerala Agricultural University, who partnered with local farmers to develop high-yield, flood- and saline-resistant rice varieties. Together, they’ve brought life back to these fields, earning a prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag for their efforts. However, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Labor shortages, climate unpredictability, and market constraints persist. Yet, through a blend of indigenous practices and scientific advancements, the Kaipad farmers have redefined resilience, fostering not just a crop but a thriving community that exemplifies sustainability in every step. Read the full story on our portal to know more about this story of perseverance, community, and the pursuit of a better future—for the land, the farmers, and the generations to come.
