A few months back, we were talking to several VCs about the subsidy we gave users right after launching subscriptions. They were shocked and couldn’t believe we were taking such large losses. Our hypothesis was that no other company was achieving better margins either. For example, they claimed Cursor was running at 10–15% negative gross margin. We disagreed on the numbers, moved on, and ultimately cancelled our subscriptions about a month after launch. Now the truth is clear for everyone to see: no one is making profits—on the contrary, the losses are massive.

I don’t think self vibecoded software is the future for businesses A couple of months ago I vibecoded a tool for a friends business his entire staff has been using it for six months now (37 people) the thing is, he’s constantly sending me feature requests, bug fixes The app is pretty complicated since it deals with insurance benefits verification so for someone that doesn’t have software development experience you can’t just prompt to fix it (believe me, he tried) recently, the API provider changed something that broke everything he’s getting really tired of dealing with it and as Peer points out that’s why saas was built in the first place somebody who’s not in the software business will find it really annoying to now have to deal with all the maintenance saas is not dead

doubt i'll open-source anything ever again. at least not at a company level.
between spam, low-quality PRs and trolls, the cons far outweighed the pros.
(this was for a repo with 50k+ stars, so quite a bit of exposure which tended to bring out the bottom-feeders)
