Cap table software is the purest example of commodity SaaS with no moat. In a 3 year span, we’ve gone from paying $300/mo to $60/mo. Every year, a new entrant in the market is willing to undercut the incumbent by 50% or more. Can grow crazy fast.. but easy come easy go.

If the plan was to encourage card spend, my guess is this will massively backfire. Rollover MQM conversion is also at egregious rates. Airline business model no longer values ~70k mi butt in seat guys like me.

There are 5+ dating apps that each make more than $100M in annual revenue. And yet, there hasn't been a single friend-finding app to reach massive scale 🤔 Why products with a stated goal of "making friends" will (probably!) never work ⬇️

@kylemccollom You forgot TreasuryDirect. Only counterparty risk is the US govt. up to $10m in each maturity of T bills and bonds. Can be as short as 4 weeks and has auto-reinvestment option. Too bad they don’t have an API..

@garrytan Doesn't account for the multiple payroll and invoicing companies that keep their float or do their processing through SVB. Way more jobs about to not make payroll. I've got 2 portcos who aren't SIVB customers but their payroll software was and payroll won't process next week

@GrandTokamak Same experience here with cap table management software as well as SOC2. Commoditized offering. Ease of onboarding becomes a zeroing of switching costs.
