This is an incredible story but I must tell it, if only because the nation deserves to know. I woke up this morning and my 1-year-old nephew was staring at me. Not blinking. Not babbling. Staring. The kind of stare that suggests a man who has read three policy documents before breakfast and found them wanting. I asked him why he was looking at me like I owed his mother rent, and why, at this critical hour, he was not in school preparing to rescue the Republic. “Let me cut to the chase,” he said, “because this isn’t a sparring session. If we miss Seyi in 2027, I will not forgive you. Nigeria needs a paradigm shift. We don’t just need a new Nigeria, we need a better country. And you’ve got to play your part. If you don’t do this, you are after my life.” I had to go back to bed. Because reality felt like a dream. I never wake up as I dey type so.

Arrival of the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and other major refinery completion components for the Azikel Refinery at the Onne Seaport in Rivers State has marked a significant milestone in the realization of one of Nigeria’s largest privately-owned refinery projects located at Obunagha-Gbarain in Yenagooa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The Crude Distillation Unit, regarded as the heart of every refinery, serves as the central processing facility through which petroleum products are distilled and refined. The massive components, measuring about 250 feet in length and weighing approximately 135 tonnes, arrived aboard a specially chartered vessel alongside other critical equipment, including Naphtha Reactors, gasoline distillation towers, crude heaters and other final installation components. The development is seen as a major boost for Bayelsa State, which has for decades contributed significantly to Nigeria’s economy through crude oil production but has continued to experience limited industrial infrastructure. The Azikel Refinery project is expected to stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities and strengthen Nigeria’s local refining capacity. The project has also been described as a landmark indigenous industrial investment capable of transforming the economic landscape of the Niger Delta. Commendations have continued to trail the resilience and commitment of Dr. Azibapu Eruani and the management of Azikel Group for driving the refinery project to its present stage, with many describing the refinery as a lasting legacy of indigenous enterprise and industrial development in the region. As movement of the refinery components from the seaport to the Bayelsa project site begins in the coming weeks, expectations remain high among residents over the socio-economic benefits the refinery is expected to deliver upon completion.

Excuse me, criticizing is different from making up false information
Omoyele Sowore@sowore

This was @AdekunleGold in 2012 openly criticizing then President @GoodluckJonathan. Back then, it was rightly called free speech, and if he had been arrested for those tweets, we would have been on the streets demanding his immediate release. How then does someone who benefited from freedom of expression turn around years later to use the police, courts, and the brutal cybercrime framework against ordinary Nigerians over online banter and social media exchanges? You cannot enjoy free speech when you are powerless and criminalize it the moment you become influential. Freedom of expression must apply to everyone, celebrities, politicians, activists, and poor young Nigerians on social media alike. The Nigeria Police Force @PoliceNG must stop acting as a private army for the rich and famous, while the judiciary must stop handing down outrageous punishments over internet speech that should never be criminal matters in the first place.

Tokunbo Wahab @tokunbo_wahab got me the UN invite to COP30 in Belém, Brazil Last year, I told one of my SSA friends in Lagos that I would love to attend COP30 in Belém, Brazil. He assured me he would make it happen. Two days later, while we were coronating the Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, I received a video call from him. At the other end was none other than Tokunbo Wahab. I immediately said, “Oga mi Sir.” His response was simple: “Send your data page, we will try and push it so you can be one of the country’s delegates.” I was genuinely happy. I called my SSA friend back and said, “Ma luwe lo”, our usual slang meaning “continue swimming.” A week later, TW linked me up with one of his assistants and, as they say, the rest is history. I got officially invited by the United Nations Climate Change Conference Committee, and the invitation letter was eventually used for my Brazil visa. I was honestly surprised by such kindness from someone I had not even interacted much with personally. After securing the visa and invitation letter, I spoke with my principal and AO, and they graciously sorted out my flight, accommodation, and even “lively” money. Today is Tokunbo Wahab’s birthday, and I am deeply grateful for the kindness and support he showed me. May Almighty God continue to bless and elevate him, Sir. And shoutout to Wale Ajetunmobi — na man you be.

Yoruba traders were moving kola nuts, leather, iron tools, woven cloth, ivory and glass across West Africa centuries before modern commerce existed. The Oyo Empire controlled the trade routes. Yoruba women controlled the markets. The economy was not informal. It was engineered.

Tinubu Gave Me Best Gift on my Birthday By Bamidele Atoyebi The morning broke with my birthday along with two good news from the president as the greatest birthday gift. The Nigeria economy has been suffering from bad “grading” and the country is suffering artificial security issues. But this morning cracks the shell around these good news; For 14 years, the story of Nigeria’s economy on the international stage was trapped in a cycle of negative outlooks and stagnation. This week, that narrative officially cracked. The S&P global rating agency upgraded Nigeria’s economy from a B- to a stable B. This is not just a letter grade; it is a fundamental shift that signals macroeconomic stability, ignites investor confidence, and ensures more capital flow into Nigeria. It proves a hard truth about capitalism: the global world only respects you when your economy works. As the dust settled on the economic upgrade, a beep on my phone was a tweet from Trump which is the second gift, a massive security victory broke from Washington and Abuja. In a joint partnership and collaboration between Nigerian troops and United States forces, the second-in-command of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) Abu-Bilal al-Minuki was successfully neutralized. This global terrorist had long compromised safety across borders. President Tinubu’s confirmation of this joint military triumph underscores a massive shift in how Nigeria is viewed globally. We are no longer just fighting asymmetric warfare in isolation; we are delivering precision results alongside global superpowers. This victory vindicates an earlier prediction I made during a recent interview at News Central: following the King Charles encounter, it is only a matter of time before President Donald Trump extends an official invitation to President Tinubu to visit the United States. The respect Nigeria is commanding on the global stage is returning rapidly. Tinubu is a leader like no other, a journey back to some moths ago when President Trump designated Nigeria as a country of concern over insecurity and threatened Nigerian Government, this threat was turned to strategic partnership by the President which are now yielding massive results in Joint military action against terrorist in Nigeria by both countries. An event the opposition thought would break him or destroy his administration now turned to a global victory and celebration. The good news has been back-to-back. President Tinubu was in Kenya the Rwanda when he filled Nigeria with pride and bragging right when he opened that Nigeria welcomed additional $20 billion foreign investment across various sectors. When questioned recently about ongoing tax reforms, President Tinubu’s answer cut through bureaucratic noise: make tax simple, remove the bottlenecks, and speak an English that the common man understands. The philosophy here isn't to create a predatory system that forces citizens to pay out of fear. Instead, the administration is focusing on transparency, explaining why taxes are paid so that citizens become willing stakeholders in nation-building. This approach was tested during his tenure in Lagos, and its nationwide deployment is already yielding fruits. The administration's people-oriented policies are taking deeper root: The NELFUND (Nigerian Education Loan Fund) is providing concrete relief and academic security to students nationwide. The developed world has historically looked down on Nigeria not because of simple societal issues, but because our economy was structurally broken. For too long, Nigeria borrowed money simply to pay salaries and fuel consumables. Under Tinubu’s leadership, the paradigm has shifted toward strategic investment. When you borrow to fund infrastructure such as the power sector the expansion of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos-Calaba Coastal highway, Sokoto-Badagry super highway and Kano-Kaduna-Ajaokuta Gas project, you shield the future economy from @batideologicalg
