@_lulles_ @Knightly_Hist Mail shorts (braies/brayettes) & bodysuits were very much a thing. According to the 15th century gothic ideal, short mail braies helped make your legs look longer. A similar silhouette was achieved in gothic plate with short faulds & long cuisses.

@0rurin @Knightly_Hist from what I've read Top Fabric supplied a lot of silk & brocades, many custom made for the production. Poly may have actually looked better on camera but with 2300+ costumes made for the show, most are pretty good for fantasy designs.

@ays_hr @Knightly_Hist I highly doubt that's real silk, my guess is polyester. Stuff like what the Turkish soap opera "Suleiman" uses.
Look at the rest of The Witcher's production quality for. Very low-quality approach.
You're right that the pattern work and the sewing style is really awkward, though.

Getting actual metal armor onscreen seems to be a massive challenge.
I don't speak about it that much because when commenting I want you guys to learn something beyond "not the right material" but for some it is immersion breaking.
And it wasn't always this way.

@Knightly_Hist Also referred to as 'dilgen', though the semicircular-style streiftartschen often (not always) seem to be attached to the rider's armor while leg-shaped dilgen are part of the saddle. They were required for the several forms of rennen run without leg armor.
