It’s hard to imagine a credible CONMEBOL qualification tournament where 8 of 10 teams qualify.
In my opinion, further World Cup expansion makes a merger with Concacaf more likely, with roughly 16 places contested across 51 associations.
That would also provide the United States, Mexico and Canada with much stronger competition through regular qualifying matches against South America’s best.
It could also lead to a permanent, unified Copa América in place of the Gold Cup.
And a comprehensive Nations League to ensure regular high-level competition across the region.

@LFCAmericanReds My complaint was the overhyping based on wins against Paraguay, Australia, & Bosnia. They always had major weaknesses and the strengths aren't at the level of teams like Belgium. Heightened expectations made that lose worse than it really was.
