MLS franchises are not woven into the fabric of communities... they are just air dropped into a city with no true & organic connection. People & communities are the are the heart and soul of football/soccer clubs around the world. This is why MLS is ignored by most USA ⚽️ fans.

If @elonmusk wanted to own an @MLS club today, he’d have to buy an existing club or secure an expansion franchise. In a promotion and relegation system, he could instead start or buy a lower division club and earn promotion through results on the field.
That’s essentially what @VancityReynolds and Rob McElhenney did with @Wrexham_AFC. They bought the club for about £2 million in the fifth tier, invested heavily in the academy, facilities, stadium, players, and business, and helped grow it into a Championship club now valued in the hundreds of millions of pounds.
Promotion creates the potential for greater revenue, sponsorships, media exposure, and club value, giving owners a strong incentive to invest in youth academies, infrastructure, and player development.
What I find ironic is that you rarely criticize MLS’s closed franchise system, even though it limits competition and private investment. If you truly believe in free markets and creating opportunities to build wealth, promotion and relegation is far more consistent with those principles because it lets investors build clubs and earn their way to the top.

Concacaf and CONMEBOL are exploring a merger against the backdrop of a possible expansion to 64 teams for the 2030 World Cup.
What could a Pan-American 2030 qualification tournament look like?
There are 45 World Cup-eligible nations between the two confederations.
9 groups of 5 teams, in a UEFA-type tournament, makes a lot of sense. Here's what the seeding would look like based on the current FIFA rankings.
Pot 1 teams include: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, United States, Ecuador, Canada, and Panama. 5 from CONMEBOL and 5 from CONCACAF
Pot 2 teams include Paraguay, Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica, Bolivia, and Curacao. again 5 from CONMEBOL and 5 from CONCACAF.
The remaining 27 teams are all from CONCACAF.
