I have been getting the run around from you folks. You forgot to add my and my wife's known traveler numbers on our reservation (2QDETJ). I am now waiting on a call for an hour to give our numbers. Please have someone call me at 413 320 1810 so I can give you the numbers.

@azimbalitw You think they lied to me about how the membership is going to split the back pay? I have no reason to believe that.

@SportsBizMiss if Wilken approves, given Title IX issues, she will exhibit even more myopia than in her previous decisions

@team980 @CraigHoffman the disc rate specified in the CBA is 4.43%. although journalists refer to a present value of the deferred contract, it is not that. All the years from 11 to 20 are discounted as if they occurred in year 10. It renders an AAV of $46m. the actual npv is around 35m

@JeffPassan amend computation, using 4.5%, under assumptions given, would be $52.8m AAV

I’m going to explain why Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers will not equal $700 million in terms of MLB accounting or the present-day value of the deal. When money in a contract is deferred, the competitive-balance tax number — the luxury tax — is discounted. With a source saying a “majority” of Ohtani’s contract is deferred, the discount could be significant. Typically, a CBT number is the average annual value of a deal — in this case $70 million. But depending on the size and length of the deferrals, Ohtani’s CBT number is likelier to wind up in the $40-50 million-a-year range, an enormous benefit for the Dodgers. The deferrals also affect the net present value of the deal. There’s a rule of thumb across all walks of life: Money today is more valuable than money tomorrow, inflation being what it is. When you defer money, you’re taking less. The Dodgers are operating in an environment in which the prime rate is 8.5%. And with money today being so pricey, it lowers the present-day value of the deal by a significant margin. Regardless, in the end, Shohei Ohtani will be paid 700 million US dollars by the Dodgers. It’s an obscene amount of money. It’s just going to be seen as less by the league’s accounting — and will allow the Dodgers to add even more around Ohtani as they try to win a championship.

@JeffPassan of course if Dodgers deferred more than half of his salary, the AAV would go lower. In any event, Eric, there is nothing economically fishy about discounting deferred salary. when you pay someone $35 million in 2043, it is not worth as much as paying $35 million this year

@JeffPassan I believe the discount rate used for CBT and AAV computation is around 4.5%. If Ohtani gets $35m deferred pay for ten years, the AAV of his deal would be $62.7m, not in the 40-50m range.

@JonStyf @ChrisYow14 Jon, I look at my twitter feed very infrequently and I almost never respond, but your claim is so outlandish I could not resist. I have never asked to be or expected to be paid to talk to a journalist or an influencer.

@ChrisYow14 @azimbalitw I have directly reached out to Mr. Zimbalist. It appeared he wanted to be paid to speak with me on the topic. When that wasn't the offer, he decided to ignore. The Braves did pay him. I don't think he is who you think he is.

Interesting to see this CM's attempt to attack and attempt to discredit an economist who has thoroughly studied stadiums across the country and also written about the entire body of work of economists who have studied this topic.

Today, the East Bank Stadium Committee is hearing from J.C. Bradbury, the guy from Georgia who has been burning up Twitter & calling us who are trying to find a reasonable way out of the terrible current Stadium Lease idiots. #GoogleHim #KochBrothers
