@DavidKPiano the practical distinction between actors and actions seems to be mostly convention (except xstate won’t await an action) and maybe that’s something the framework should leave to the consumer

@DavidKPiano granted I’m basically talking about a completely new API. xstate would do what xstate does but the interface would be radically different

@Dieter_be @adamhjk just because the edges can be fuzzy does not mean it’s “practically meaningless.” it has a commonly accepted meaning. is a hot dog a sandwich? this is a really tired argument. I see it from people who would stand to benefit from muddying the term

@adamhjk Even equating OSD to open source is flawed and open to so much variance that it becomes practically meaningless. I've tried to explain this in the thread.

REAL node.js developers use commonjs, and instead of module.exports they use “this” or a top-level return

@ChShersh @santrox444 @joshmo_dev dealing with GC is a real problem in modded (java) minecraft! simple games can get away with it, but not resource-intensive ones. MC is simple… until you add 300 mods. right tool for the job, etc.

What do people mean when they say Rust solved language memory safety? Languages with GC solved it 60 years ago

@matthewcp I have made a point that every CLI tool I work on is first a library. I don't see why so many people don't see this problem just like separation of concerns in a browser UI.

Too many things in the ecosystem have CLIs that should really just be a library.

The worst part about my schedule for the next three weeks is that @factoriogame is coming out and I will be way to busy to play it or even watch youtubers play it.

watching the WP situation, i feel incredibly torn. on one hand, it'd be disingenuous to call the matt's behavior anything but unhinged. on the other, every time we see a maintainer break down at the open source/money border, it's way too easy to just take the ad hominem path.

@tobie @ag_dubs I think there is nuance here and you are both right in some sense. The problem is how hard it is to draw clean lines in these cases. He lost a lot of his “right” to claim maintainer status by acting too much like the CEO in this. If he had just stopped talking at some point…

If you have index files in your app code that look like this, just delete them ❌ Import directly; avoid barrel files. They don't really make your codebase more organized, and have a bunch of downsides.

xbox family send me a notification that my kid is having a birthday and we should “celebrate”. I hit the “celebrate” button which pops a modal which prompts me to add money to my kid’s account. sleazy
