@AndrewBurch14 @pluant Most of the High Masses I've attended recently I was in the schola lol. Also, I understand Latin so that's kinda distracting if I'm trying to pray the rosary during Mass. Usually I whisper into my beads if there's bad acoustics and I can't hear anything.

@b0rtcask1 @pluant There’s enough time for it at a High Mass (so long as you don’t worry about following all the silent prayers of the priest) even if you sing all your parts of the Ordinary and follow the readings + audible prayers.

When people are really confused as to why Vatican II happened and why the convents emptied I always advise watching the Australian miniseries The Brides of Christ set around the Council. It's really accurate as to what happened imo. You can find it on YouTube.
Catholic Conclave@cathconclave

TRUE STORY 90,000 nuns immediately left their convents following the adoption of the revolutionary changes of Vatican II; the changes were read out in every convent; everything that made the convents holy places was removed; TODAY, there is nothing but desolation!

St. Francis de Sales lists two ways in which someone can authenticate their mission: 1. Ordinary, by the hierarchy — "The Church sent me and can be proven with my paperwork" 2. Extraordinary, by God — "God sent me and can be proven with miracles" Which does the SSPX provide?

@b0rtcask1 Well, it was a reconstruction, a reasonable facsimile. The late 90’s/early 2000’s didn’t have many traditional religious orders that had much continuity with the past. And the “shame culture” is like a “boogie man” that is always discussed, but never can be articulated. Odd

@JK08467264 Shame culture is when someone did something twenty years ago & they're basically shunned & their existence is never mentioned in the family. Super common, everyone had stories in the old days about this.

@PaulinusOfTrier I've never prayed them and if you ask me to name them I'd probably come up with two or three and not in the right order. 😎

The artificial introduction of the Luminous Mysteries is quite a good illustration of the two mentalities which divide the Church. On the one hand, we have a practice which is connected both to the reciting of 150 psalms and to the vision of St Dominic. It has evolved with the addition of the petition, and following fatima, the common but optional practice of addiing the Fatima prayer. But the basic structure of 150 hail Marys, divided into 15 mysteries divided into a trinity of joyful, sorrowful and glorious which so well reflect the experience of Catholic life remained unchanged for seven centuries. On the other, you have the guys who always think they've got a better idea. So out goes the connection with the psalms, out goes the rosary hallowed by Marian revelation, and in comes a set of no doubt worthy meditations, designed by enthusiasts to make sense of the gap in Jesus' ministry perceived in the original mysteries. Of course the Pope who introduced them beatified the man who thought them up. Of course they are optional. But somehow, one more aspect of the old faith has been pushed out of the doorway, and one more division of the church ushered in.

Do NOT pray the rosary during mass. This is inappropriate and against church teaching.

@pluant I'm old enough to remember when Fr. Ripperger was just some FSSP priest who had an interesting website & one or two interesting essays out there. How the heck did we get here?

I did play soccer in a cassock, we were warned against "particular friendships," & castigated about our deportment etc. So I got to see in miniature the religious life in its before & after stage, as well as the "shame culture" that drove much of pre-Vatican II Catholicism.

I don't know why the algorithm blessed this post w/ its attention but I will say by way of explanation that I was a seminarian in a traditionalist order at the turn of the century so I got to experience the Mad Max wasteland version of traditional religious life seen in this clip
