At my new school, each class meets only 3x/week for 70 min. I am struggling w/ having so little instructional & practice time. There are many learning experiences I'd like my Ss to have, but nowhere near enough time. Feel like my Ss are being cheated... #iteachmath #mtbos

@mathequalslove Thanks, @mathequalslove! I'll use this w/ 7th grade Pre-Algebra during the 2nd week of school. We're doing Pentomino investigations during the first week. (I have them for three 60-minute blocks/week so I have an ongoing group activity for the last part of class for each week.)

I decided to have Ss work in small groups for the last 20-30 minutes of 1st day in Geometry. First, they will use 2 file cards to build a model of intersecting planes w/ points & lines in various places. Then they will begin working on this problem. #iteachmath #MTBoS #geomchat

I decided to begin my Geometry classes by sending students to the whiteboards to work on this problem for 8-10 minutes. #iteachmath #MTBoS #geomchat

My department chair wrote to admin that providing me with enough white boards on the walls was a "pedagogical imperative" for the way I intend to teach. (I'm starting at a new school.) Yes, indeed! #iteachmath #MTBoS

First day is done! We did math today, and it was the best first day I've ever had. Kids were super engaged by the 2s-9s Challenges that each group tackled on their section of whiteboard. Their collaboration was beautiful. #teach180 #mtbos #iteachmath
