Wie viele Menschen // Nicht-Bots lesen hier denn eigentlich mit? Mir ist vollkommen bewusst, dass die wenigsten aktiv interagieren (geht mir meist genauso), aber ich würde echt mal um Handmeldungen bitten. :-)

The other day a friend at work asked me why I love Cinema so much or when my love for film really came into focus. The answer to that question is really easy: December of 2007. December of 2007 will always be the point of no return for me. Within a two week period in December of 2007, my dad took me to No Country for Old Men & There Will Be Blood. I was an 8th grader at the time. My mom still didn’t allow me to see R rated movies in the theater yet, barring a super rare occasion. I always found that silly because up to that point, my only real knowledge of Cinema came from watching R rated gangster films with my friends (Goodfellas, The Godfather, and Scorsese’s recently released The Departed) or R rated comedies from the likes of Seth Rogen & Judd Apatow. I was a snot-nosed teenager without a true understanding of Cinema. I didn’t really think about what I was watching, I never really put thought into what was on screen. It was my dad who insisted we see both No Country for Old Men & There Will Be Blood in theaters together. We didn’t tell my mom on either occasion. We didn’t tell her for months. It was our best kept secret in the history of our relationship. I will always be grateful to my dad for having the vision & the appreciation of film to take me to two American masterpieces while just a middle schooler. Seeing No Country for Old Men & There Will Be Blood in a two week span as a teenager changed my life. Javier Bardem & Daniel Day-Lewis were all I could think about. This was the first time in my life I hunted YouTube endlessly for clips from both films after going to the theater. I just couldn’t get enough. In some ways, seeing these films at such a young age spoiled me: I sort of expected Cinema to provide me movies & moments like this routinely. In the years that’ve passed since seeing both of these films, I now realize neither of these films are routine. Nothing about these masterpieces can be taken for granted. What I experienced in the Winter of 2007 was once in a lifetime. I wanted to share this memory not only because it’s so special to me, as are each of these movies, but to serve as a reminder of the power of Cinema. These are moments that stay with you forever. These are moments that pull a relationship closer together. If you’re reading this post & considering going to the theater with a loved to catch a film, don’t second guess yourself. Embrace the experience because it could last you a lifetime the same way December of 2007 will last me a lifetime.

I love going to the cinema. I don’t want that to go away. I’m so happy that in my own small way I can contribute to the experience. We have sold out a screening of Robocop with my giveaway poster. I think it’s small, genuine grass roots events like that that get bums in seats.

Letzte Folge "Das Ach". Wir gehen in die emotionale Fettverbrennung. Schön war's. Und: noch mal ein Schmankerl zum Abschluss. Gönnt euch ein Bier dazu, würde unser Protagonist gut finden. Aber bitte was Lokales. das-a.ch/77-john-chicki…

After a decade of learning German via online courses, VHS, apps, and several unproductive "meet-ups" in various pubs, I've crunched the data on the most difficult elements of the language. Frankly, the results aren't that surprising.

To celebrate the 30th birthday of DOOM, here's a thread of everything that I've found that DOOM can run on. Some are real, some... maybe not. It's up to you to figure out which 😉 Let's begin with: DOOM... on an ultrasound scanner.
