In Cannon Spike (known as Gunspike in Japan), Capcom and developer Psikyo delivered the ultimate "Capcom Fan Service" shooter. It’s an arcade-style, multi-directional run-and-gun where icons from Street Fighter, Mega Man, and Darkstalkers strap on rocket skates and hoverboards to blast through waves of terrorists and bio-monsters.
Release Date: November 14, 2000 (NA) / December 21, 2000 (JP)
A.R.S.F. (Anti-Robot Special Forces) Intel:
The "All-Star" Roster: The base game lets you play as Cammy and Charlie (Street Fighter), Arthur (Ghosts 'n Goblins), and new characters Shiba and Simone. The Dreamcast version includes Mega Man and B.B. Hood (Darkstalkers) as hidden characters you can unlock by highlighting the end of the roster and pressing left/right.
The "Smash TV" Connection: While it uses a 3D polygonal engine, the gameplay is a classic "arena shooter." You enter a room, clear all enemies and the boss, and move to the next. It’s incredibly fast-paced, with most full playthroughs taking less than 20 minutes, perfect for arcade chasing.
The Move Pool: Every character has a "Normal Shot," a "Heavy Shot," and a "Heavy Attack" (melee). Cammy’s heavy melee is her iconic Cannon Spike kick, which gives the game its Western title.
Resident Evil Cameos: One stage, "The Unholy Dwelling," is a direct tribute to Resident Evil, featuring zombie dogs and a backdrop that looks suspiciously like the Spencer Mansion.
Fallen Vega: One of the bosses is a radically redesigned version of Vega Claw, called "Fallen Balrog"). He ditches the mask and Spanish ninja aesthetic for long hair, pale skin, and two blood-soaked claws, looking more like a gothic rockstar than a matador.

@Lazarus_DS Right on, it's where I played it. I think I forgot to mention it in my post lol 🤣

In Gekisha Boy (often called Photograph Boy), Irem delivered one of the most bizarre and creative titles on the PC-Engine. It’s an "on-rails photography shooter" where you play as David Goldman, a student who must snap photos of increasingly absurd situations, ranging from UFO sightings to 80s movie parodies, to graduate from photography school.
Release Date: October 2, 1992
Paparazzi Intel:
The "Action" Focus: You control both David’s movement and the camera reticle simultaneously. The goal isn't just to take photos, but to hit "Special" events (marked by a "!" or sudden chaos) to earn the high scores required to pass each stage's quota.
Copyright Chaos: The game is famous for its "loose" interpretation of intellectual property. You’ll find yourself snapping shots of characters who look suspiciously like Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, Superman, and even a DeLorean from Back to the Future.
Obstacle Course: It’s not just about the shots; David has to jump over rolling barrels, dodge falling objects, and avoid getting hit by the very people he's trying to photograph. Getting hit makes you drop your precious film!
Power-up Progression: Collecting specific items will upgrade your camera, giving you a faster shutter speed or a Wide-Angle Lens, which makes it much easier to capture those "blink-and-you-miss-it" moments.

@PaulWJsouth I have to revisit that. I never got on with it, back in the day.

In Virtua Tennis (released on October 6, 2000 for the Dreamcast), Sega proved that "realism" doesn't have to be boring. By taking the lightning-fast arcade engine and adding a deep World Tour mode, they created what many still consider the greatest sports game ever made, a title so intuitive that anyone could pick up a controller and feel like a pro within thirty seconds.
Grand Slam Intel:
The Two-Button Mastery: Unlike modern tennis sims with twenty different shot modifiers, Virtua Tennis uses just two buttons: Topspin and Slice. The depth comes from your positioning and how long you hold the direction during your swing. If you're planted, you're dangerous; if you're running, you're toast.
The "World Tour" Grind: This was the secret sauce of the Dreamcast port. You create a player and travel the globe, but instead of just playing matches, you compete in bizarre training mini-games, like knocking down giant bowling pins with serves or protecting a series of targets from a ball machine.
The Roster of Legends: You get to play as (or against) icons like Jim Courier, Tommy Haas, and Cedric Pioline. Each has a specific "style", Courier is a baseline power hitter, while Tim Henman is the serve-and-volley king.
The 4-Player Smash: This was the ultimate "party" game for the Dreamcast. With the system's four built-in controller ports, doubles matches were chaotic, high-speed affairs that usually ended in a lot of shouting and "accidental" lobs.

@AgileHarvey You guys rock. I love my recently acquired Dreamcast. I hope to stream it this weekend.

Samurai Shodown for the Gameboy DMG Takara performed a minor miracle by shrinking the massive Neo Geo arcade sprites into the "chibi" but highly detailed "Netsura" style. Unlike most 8-bit fighting games that feel like slow-motion clashing, this port retains the high-damage, high-stakes tension of the original, where one well-timed heavy slash can delete half a health bar.
