PRESS STATEMENT MARK SALUTES NIGERIAN WORKERS, PLEDGES ADC'S FIGHT FOR LIVING WAGE The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian workers for their resilience, dignity, and unwavering sacrifices, declaring that Nigeria remains standing because of their hard work and dedication In his 2026 Workers' Day message issued on Friday in Abuja, Senator Mark described workers across all sectors—from classrooms to farms, hospitals to marketplaces, factories to oil fields—as the enduring backbone of the nation. He, however, expressed deep concern over the plight of many Nigerian workers, noting that countless citizens labour daily without fair wages, job security, or confidence in a brighter tomorrow. "The African Democratic Congress recognizes that a nation that cannot protect the dignity of its workforce cannot truly claim to be on the path of progress," Mark stated. He lamented the harsh economic realities confronting workers, saying: "Inflation has eroded salaries. Unemployment has shattered dreams. And the basic right of people to be heard is increasingly under threat." The former Senate President assured Nigerian workers that the ADC remains committed to rebuilding confidence in the nation's workforce and restoring hope to millions. According to him, the party is determined to champion policies that will guarantee a living wage rather than a mere minimum wage. "We will fight for pension reforms that restore dignity in retirement, for policies that create jobs—not just statistical propaganda—and for an economy where productivity is rewarded and corruption is punished," he said. Senator Mark further cautioned that anti-people forces thrive whenever the labour movement is divided or silenced, stressing that the task of rebuilding Nigeria ultimately rests in the capable hands of its workers. He added: "On behalf of the ADC family, I wish all Nigerian workers a peaceful Workers' Day. Your labour is not in vain.
