Hi everyone, I recently moved out of a rented property and made sure everything was left in good condition. I then requested my deposit back. As is often the case with UK agencies, the landlord claimed they needed to clean the bathroom and wanted to deduct £30. I wasn’t happy about this and let him know, but I also said I wouldn’t pursue it further, as £30 isn’t worth a drawn-out dispute. Now, I’m trying to get details about the deposit scheme he used so I can claim the rest. Initially, he told me to wait, but then he asked for my bank details to transfer the balance—this suggests he didn’t protect the deposit through a tenancy deposit scheme. Should I go ahead and give him my bank details for the partial refund, or should I use the fact that he didn’t use a deposit scheme as leverage to request the full deposit back?
