@ykarps @Spanish_Kortez I forgot the name of the animator but I specifically remember he had the skill to make an animation where a character talks and tilts his head at the same time, in Robin Hood it was Baloo

@Rain65098487 @justinqtaylor @Tinknocker28 @stewdean @erikmbaker Yes. Morality in escapist worlds is caricatured and clear-cut because we want to escape the complexity of the real world.
I think propaganda is also escapist, in a way. People want the world to be that simple.
English

@Rain65098487 @justinqtaylor @Tinknocker28 @stewdean @erikmbaker So what I'm thinking is, why is it that people can watch events so fake, so deliberately designed to erase all moral nuance so the good guys are unambiguously good, and not realize how fake THAT is? Yes the aliens are fake. But the moral of the story is fake too.
English

@Rain65098487 @justinqtaylor @Tinknocker28 @stewdean @erikmbaker Oh of course, that part's so obvious it goes without saying.
But people still watch completely unrealistic scenarios unfolding on screen and leave the theater thinking "If something similar happened in real life, then obviously violence would be necessary and morally right".
English

@Rain65098487 @justinqtaylor @Tinknocker28 @stewdean @erikmbaker Like, I'm not saying you could mistake War of the Worlds for a political manifesto.
But it's disturbing how well you can create a horrifying alien enemy and a moral justification for exterminating them just by mimicking things humans have said about other humans for centuries.
English

@Rain65098487 @justinqtaylor @Tinknocker28 @stewdean @erikmbaker I'm definitely an overthinker, I'm sorry :)
Yes, humans can distinguish fiction from reality. But the emotional narratives that resonate strongly with us in fiction can often be directly converted into propaganda. And humans are notoriously bad at recognizing propaganda.

@saltpork545 @AlexandraErin That mantra is going to be a disaster for any society that sees "redundancy" as a synonym for "waste" instead of "safety margin"
English

@AlexandraErin No, not exactly.
It means that the structures and systems that do exist should, you know, work and be as efficient as possible.
When done well it's a check to growing the power of a system needlessly with said power being put back in the hands of people.

@dnlnwmn @playnyctophobia But then the words would be upside down when you held it in your hand

@playnyctophobia they easily could’ve just printed it the other way, regardless of handedness

@joneslinda @A90506134 @kittypurrzog I can still remember how it felt when I was a kid and it finally clicked with me that other people had thoughts and memories in their heads that I couldn't see, and the world looked different to them than it did to me.
English

@A90506134 @kittypurrzog Can't argue about inner souls. They are knowable only to their owners and impossible to verify objectively. Observable reality of physical bodies is delegitimized while subjective feelings are the only acceptable truth.

@dan_wrestle @notCursedE Why? Do people just think she's not dedicated enough to being transgender? Surgery being sort of like successfully naming all of a musician's albums when someone asks to prove you're a real fan and not a poser.
English

@bach_tigh @notCursedE Yes, I believe they would.

@dan_wrestle @notCursedE Would people magically start using different pronouns if she did?

@notCursedE If Eddie wants to be called a woman, why doesn't he have the operation?
