Advice for #amquerying authors: Just cut down the word count. Don’t overthink. Your current manuscript won’t be the final version, and you can add those deleted scenes back once you get a book deal. BoS (my YA fantasy debut) got acquired at 97k and will be published at 120k 🌞🌙

The amount of unpaid emotional labor expected of creatives right now is unsustainable, actually.

After posting a photo of me, I ended up getting some pretty horrible comments about my appearance, and I’ve been too scared to post a photo on here since… But I’ve decided I’m not gonna let nasty people dictate what I post - so here I am, unashamed of what I look like 😊

I’m going to have to take a step back from writing for a little while. I’ve cut off chunks of myself to fit into different spaces for this story time & time again. I’ve worked so hard & I just need a break. Querying has sucked the joy out of writing for me.

@books4kimberly I’ll have to keep you in mind if I end up querying my near-future “clone with an attitude” WIP later this year. 😀 But I have another story to query first.

@jnels0n55 @JeneeDutary I learned it by reading publishers weekly. They have articles about new imprints. At least 4 of the big 5 publishers have NA or “crossover” imprints now. It’s also something I suspected would happen when Fourth Wing took off as a megahit.

My roommate and lifting partner in college was an ardent atheist. I've been a devout Christian my entire life. We spent every waking moment together, from the dorm room to the gym. I truly loved him like a brother. After school ended, we went our separate ways and talked, at most, once a year. He called me the other day to let me know he was having twins. This was literally one year after my Wife and I had ours. In addition to the news of the babies, he let me know that he had dedicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. I wept. We debated theology constantly in school. He would go with me to church every once in a while because he said he liked the "hot girls." I didn't care, I just wanted him to sit under hot Gospel preaching. I felt like I failed him in a lot of ways. My answers weren't always the most buttoned up, and although I was living for the Lord, he still saw my sin daily. Hearing his testimony, I was reminded that I have no power to save. It is the Lord's and His alone. Let me encourage you to not grow weary in doing good. You may not see the fruit of your efforts for years, or ever at all. But, seeing the fruit is not your duty. Planting and watering it is.

I often worry about my books. "This is too quiet." "No one will get this but me." "My editor will realize she made a grave mistake. I should ditch the writing thing. Maybe Taco Bell is hiring." Then, a kid reads 10 words of ONE CAN BE and says, "This book is about ME!" 1/3

I had fun creating this "teacup bowl of ramen" a few years back, fashioning all the key ingredients out of paper. The chopsticks were made from toothpicks.
