So I’m seeing hype of Xbox pushing disc to digital program as a clap back to use against Sony. Umm you do realize if the program is true, it’s because they are also getting rid of physical disc. They want to you to trade a physical license for a digital one.

Physical game activists don't actually believe in the phrase "vote with your wallet" even though they spam it. The moment PlayStation gamers buy GTA6 and Black Ops en masse (two digital-only releases), the protestors get salty. "Sheep. Cattle. Not a real gamer. Enjoy your slop." Well, there are the next 1,600 layoffs to consider. And then there is the upcoming budget cut for the following fiscal year—all because Xbox convinced its fanbase that gaming should be cheap, affordable, and tied to a Day-1 subscription model. Good luck turning that around.

@kiwitalkz Its not a "PR Statement". Alot of grifters on this app were saying the studio is closing and the sheep started to believe it.

Unfortunately I don't trust any PR statement that comes out for any studio under the Microsoft umbrella anymore. More layoffs are to come over the next 12 months. Microsoft could just come along and close the studio during that time. Two other things to keep in mind as well. 1. ID Software has lost a lot of institutional knowledge now and that will impact the output and quality of their games going forward. 2. I expect the morale to be soul crushingly low, devs aren't going to work at their best after a huge amount of their friends and colleagues were shown the door. I could easily imagine a scenario where a number of the remaining devs are secretly applying elsewhere cause they don't want to work for Microsoft anymore.

Just finished DOOM The Dark Ages Revelations. It ends in a way that clearly had a planned second DLC. Which is incredibly bizarre because it will never see the light of day after today's layoffs at ID. And what makes this even worse, is that this DLC was the best DOOM has ever been.

Make it make sense. id Software is one of the few studios Xbox owns that consistently makes awesome stuff AND makes it in a relatively timely manner (4 years between Doom 2016 and Eternal; 5 years between Eternal and Dark Ages).
