@RGRyan777 I had one that I used to scour (as in washing) sheep fleece before I prepared the wool to spin on my spinning wheel. As a child I also used one to really wash laundry when my mother’s hand was badly injured. It requires two hands to wash and then the wring. Oh, what fun!

Anybody else have one of these monstrosities sitting on your back porch when you were a kid? I literally thought this thing was a monster from hell.

Congratulations on 9 years of sobriety to Spencer! 🎉 “4,733,280 Minutes. 78,888 Hours. 3,287 Days. 9 Years. 9 years ago, I was broken. I was bruised. I was bloodied. Begging to breathe, begging to die. Today, I still feel parts of me broken. But breathing is easier. The bruises have become brawn. The cuts have become scars, each one telling it’s own tale of greatness and triumph. To say this last year of sobriety was just another notch on the door frame, would be an understatement. If anything, it was my toughest year to date as I continue growing. I could’ve picked up the bottle at any point and taken a sip, but I know that I’m better than that. I lost a relationship, a house, a cat, a community, a job, and friends. I lost my drive. I lost my dreams and the moments that made me feel alive. I nearly lost my faith in myself and the world. However, in all that loss, I also found things. I found new ways to love myself. I found ways to love music again. I found ways to forgive myself. I found the courage to be honest. I found out you need to do things the wrong way, so that you do them the right way next time. I found ways to be comfortable being alone. I found out that I can be my own worst enemy and critic. I found out I’m worth more than the people who have used me for their own gain. I found that you have to face the demons inside you before you can fight the demons out in the world. Most importantly, I found 365 moments, even if it just meant waking up each day, to appreciate life and what I’ve become. 365 more reasons that prove being alive and sober is much more beautiful than being drunk or six feet under. To my family. To my closest friends. To the people who have encouraged and supported me. To the voices who probably didn’t even know that your words meant something… Thank you. Truly. Spencer, here’s to another year of staying sober. Here’s to another year of being legendary. Here’s to another year of climbing mountains. @gggirl924 Nah, my parents were atheists. They didn’t care. They were busy shopping on Christmas Eve or the day before that. In Portland there is a street called Peacock Lane that has a stunning display every year. It is in the deed of every home sold that participation is mandatory.

We sure did on a Saturday night before Christmas. We had favorite areas we would go into that had the best decorations. Did your family do this?

When my wife and I were first married, we had one of these. We’d walk around the grocery store, adding up items that we were putting into our cart to make sure that we could afford to pay for them when we got to the register. Anyone else?

@RGRyan777 Actually, I want to clarify: That husband was my first, very abusive husband I was married to briefly and just barely escaped with my life. The man I’m married to for over 40 years has loved, protected and cared for me, adopted my children and is an angel on Earth!

@RGRyan777 Absolutely! My husband had me on a strict grocery budget. He’d hand me a $20 bill and that was it! If I wanted something that put me over $20, too bad! That little thing kept me from embarrassment! (And I had to figure out tax in my head to add to the total!

@TheCancerSutra There’s a reason it’s called The Miracle of Modern Medicine! I had my right shoulder and hand fixed this year and it’s so nice to be able to use my arm again! I’m calling a halt to future illnesses and malfunctions! I’m bionic now. I’m so glad you are doing well, too! 🤗

If you're thinking about getting a hip replacement, I would highly recommend it. Totally a sentence I thought I would be typing at 38 😂 But seriously, I'm running and jumping better than I have for the last few years... and I'm only 4 months out and still clearly need to (and will hopefully) recover more. I haven't tried to sprint yet, but I've run a couple ~5:50 miles. I can grab the rim off of two feet, but I'm a 1 foot jumper. I still don't trust myself to do that explosively yet. But I think I'll have a good chance at dunking this year, which is nuts. I'm 38, 6'0", and very pale. Add in coming off a hip replacement and a bunch of cancer treatment, and I'd feel pretty accomplished putting one down. The pain relief has been great. I think a major portion of my recovery going quickly is that I can actually do accessory work to keep the rest of my body stronger. The last couple of years, doing anything mobility-related sucked because... you use your hips for anything worthwhile. It's early. I'm sure I'll have setbacks. My quad tendon gets a little sore when I push too much, and I'm definitely doing that. But so far, hip replacement has been great 👌🏻 #thankscancer #ortho #scienceproject

@gggirl924 Oh my goodness! I had one over 7 ft. long! I lived in NJ then, too! If a boy broke it, it meant he liked you. (Remember the Fairy Loops on the back of our shirts?) A boy who I had a mad crush on did break it but he did it to be mean not because he liked me. 😢

@gggirl924 😂 Oh, Yeah! The memorizing phone numbers thing was impossible for me! I have no head for numbers! Female-math-phobia? My father was a mechanical engineer who laughed a me and my 9th grade algebra teacher laughed at me in front of the class-both times because I asked for help!

@gggirl924 Naahhh. We didn’t have ANY fruit anywhere in our house! The only fresh fruit my mother EVER bought was bananas, and then only they were priced under a certain amount. I was in 7th grade the first time I was given an apple by my friend’s mom. I did not know how to eat it!

Did everybody have a plastic bowl of fruit on their kitchen table like us?
